This would indicate he's only in 3rd grade and playing for an Indiana (the state) AAU team. One question I have on AAU is do they go by age or grade at the younger levels? The AAU website indicates its age based (August 1-July 31) but for nationals, teams can register at their grade level and essentially "play down" since mostly everyone is held back a year now. But for these local tournaments, can grade-based teams "play down" or is that just for nationals. Never understood this. We've run into grade-based teams with overage kids playing down a level but I dont know if that's allowed or not. Either it is or nobody cares.
