Heather's egregious buyout will not only subject us to another year of bad basketball, it cost us a real coach in Sean Miller. Although 5 of you think he's a bad coach, college basketball does not agree. As we scour the MAAC, America East, SoCon, Horizon, and CAA next year, Miller will be coaching a Top 25ish level Xavier program or a South Carolina in the rugged SEC. But I'm sure Heather will hit on her lottery ticket. Riiiight.

Sean Miller will be no better than average. He is tainted goods, lost his right hand man in Book, and won’t have the talent advantage that he needs to win big.

It seems in your mind there is just one coach in all of college basketball to save Pitt basketball.

He’s not even involved at Xavier lol. Wrong Miller tried to gain traction there. Couldn’t. Where do you get your incorrect info lol

I disagree with this. I think he would be a huge upgrade over what we have now. That being said, he definitely is tainted. I'd much rather have Pitino than Miller if we are gonna start taking shady coaches.

There is only one coach who we can realistically get who wont suck and that's Miller. Heather's lottery ticket will be fired in 3-4 years along with her.

Where does this absurd idea come from that an AD has to fall on the sword if one or more of their hires doesn't work out? If the rest of the athletic department is healthy, especially football which trumps all else, its absurd to run the AD over not getting a basketball hire right. And fwiw, ADs rarely have autonomy to choose a men's basketball or football coach.

Because only 2 sports matter and she didn't hire the football coach. Also, as much as we want to believe Narduzzi has turned the corner, he could just as well go back to 7-5 without a 1st Round QB

She should be held accountable because she stupidly extended Capel after a little more than 1 year here. And now we're stuck with him when everyone knows he is a terrible coach and shouldn't be here for a year 5. That's on Heather.

I highly doubt that was all her doing. I'm fine with it even if it is. Pitt has obviously put an emphasis on stability and retention to avoid becoming a stepping stone job. That's a policy that will serve you well with successful hires, and bite you in the ass with hires that don't work out. It worked out well with Narduzzi - not so well with Capel.

The real problem is that Pitt still falls short in fundraising and donations. Perhaps some of that is on her, some on the culture at Pitt. Most schools view large contracts and absurd buyouts as the cost of doing business in major college athletics today. Right or wrong, many schools think if you can't throw around 10 to 20 million to make a change whenever you want, then maybe you aren't cut out to compete in big time college athletics.

If Capel had been successful at Pitt and left for greener pastures without a big buyout as a deterrent, there would be bitching about that too.

You're fine with giving a coach an extension after a little more than 1 year here? And we stunk that season? That's ridiculous.

It's a little more complicated than that. I don't have a problem with the philosophy per se, if that's that way they want to conduct business. I'm just not a fan of being stuck with a coach that is failing miserably simply because they don't want to fork over the buyout. (or can't afford it)

FWIW, I thought it was a bad hire from day one, but I can see the thought process behind it. It seemed to be a popular hire with the fan base and most were on board with it until things turned sour last year.

The guy who went essentially 500 in conference in the pac 10 his last 3 years ?

Your sweaty man crush obsession explains why you’re unemployable

The ad doesn’t make that call alone

Yea, while he wasn't able to recruit due to everyone saying AZ was getting an NCAAT ban. That was his making but the scandal played a large role those last 3 years.

So, I'll ask you this and we'll put you on record;

Will Heather's lottery ticket have a better record than this horrible, horrible coach, Sean Miller from 2023-24 to say 2028-29?

Sean Miller won’t win at South Carolina

If Miller did not play at Pitt this would be a non event! He has a documented history of cheating and not sure that is the image Pitt will ever portray. Pretty sure our vetting process would have given him a thumbs down!
The same process that gave us Haywood and Graham?

I found it interesting that out here the UA kids are basically strongly hinting that Sean was kind of a control freak compared to Tommy Lloyd basically letting them figure many things out for themselves.

I do hope that Arizona does not get any tourney jitters because they are a beautiful team to watch play and I hope they go far. They are fast and love to score but also pretty physical at the same time.

As an aside it has been amazing to watch the news and sports reports to see all of the interviews with the players and not just in the post game press conferences. March is really fun when you have as much coverage as Tucson gives UA. Hell, last night they interviewed a UNLV female tourney player because she plays against her sister from UA Saturday night in McKale. I didn’t know the UA girl from Adam but found the interview compelling. Sure as hell beats listening to reporters talk about who the Steelers should select as QB for next year.

Im
and 6-6 Paul Chryst, Stallings, and Capel. We sure do a great job vetting these guys.
I'm "fine" failing on the court/field, you're going to miss on those occasionally.

My point was our vetting process missed on stuff off the court. No vetting process will be perfect but ours seems to be bad.

I think everyone can assume that Will Wade will be saddled with a "show cause" label by the NCAA. What is the likelihood that Miller will suffer the same fate? Sanctions are still looming, if I am not mistaken.

Who cares. He’ll never be top half SEC and will have similar results to Frank Martin (of course without the final 4 cuz he’s a choker). Martin is a much better coach and couldn’t get it done there
I care so I am asking for your answer:

Better 5 year record:

Miller or Heather's Powerball ticket.

I say Miller. You going with Powerball?

"Who will have a better record: this unproven Ben Howland or sure thing Skip Prosser who has local connections?"
"Who will have a better record: career assistant Jamie Dixon or sure thing Tim Floyd who got Iowa State to a Sweet 16?"

We have no clue.
I have a clue. There is a 0% chance Heather's lottery ticket outperforms Sean Miller. 0%.

And its looking more and more like Miller is going back to Xavier. They'll be in 4 of the next 5 NCAA Tournaments while we're wandering in the wilderness.

Should have hired him in 2018. We would have been further along.

That was debunked. There were reasons.
