I am not a college coach and don't have Capel's credentials. So I trust who he picks for his assistants.
With that being said, I really wanted one coach who could recruit and already had strong connections with the DMV and another assistant who could recruit with established connections in Michigan and Ohio. That's why I brought up a name like Drew Valentine from Oakland University and now Loyola.
Smoke didn't make an impact there but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't still focus on Michigan and Ohio. Smoke just had connections with The Family out of Detroit. There is a lot of talent all over Michigan. Too much for MSU and U of M to all take.
We will see what connections the third assistant had but the time Jeff Capel has to spend recruiting and using his connections, the less focus he can have on the overall program.
