Watching him, I was wondering "how did this guy end up at Stony Brook". He is pretty talented.

Well, he started in high school he was like 5'9". He grew almost a foot by the time he was a Sr. He didn't play high school basketball his last two years, and was discovered on the AAU circuit.

Seems like an interesting dude. Into art, F1 racing, vintage cars, plays the violin, not your typical jock.

I'm not sure what position he played at Stony Brook. I saw that they also had a 7' 280 lb guy and a 6'9" 260 lb guy on the roster. But he looks like he's getting much more comfortable by the game in his role here.

Is this common nowadays for D1 level kids to not even bother playing high school hoops and just play AAU?

He didn't really "play" AAU. I think the story is he didn't play HS ball his last 2 years and was generally not a very good player. Probably wouldn't have been in the rotation his junior or senior year. But he hit a growth spurt and "guested" in a few AAU tournaments playing with some friends. He goes to Monroe JC in the Bronx for school, not basketball. Decides to try out for the team and makes it but only averages like 2 PPG his FR year and like 6 or 7 his soph year.

That's how you wind up at Stony Brook

What I want to know is how he only average 9.7 PPG last year at Stony Brook.

Reminds me of Sam Young with his hobbies. Though I can't see Mo doing flips like Sam could lol.

He took 8 shots per game, and shot 43% from the field, seems like he was not a big part of their offense.
Sounds like his offense keeps getting better. He's a rare person... he has upside as a senior
