He is an assistant coach for OKC. IF he is interested in a HC gig, then he would be a great hire. Avery Johnson went to Bama, so it is worth checking into.

I started to look at former NBA HCs and who might be a fit and he is the only one I could think of, but he is far lower on the pinache spectrum than Avery Johnson. Johnson was an NBA Champion, former NBA COTY, and pretty successful as a HC. Williams doesn't have any of those things and doesn't have the name recognition from TV work. Neither had/has previous college experience. He seemingly is a personable and well respected guy though.

I'd be skeptical, but intrigued.

I kinda like this.

He is a very respected and well spoken individual.

Think he gets another shot in the NBA though.

His wife died in a car accident a short time ago, so he's currently on a leave of absence for the rest of the NBA season and they're unsure what his status will be moving forward.

Wouldn't an NBAer as HC be a weak recruiter since they have no/limited college recruiting experience or ties to HS basketball hotbeds?
I would think a college HC would have an instant positive impact on recruiting.

Kevin Ollie is doing ok though he had a few years under Calhoun.

Jay Williams tried to throw his name into the Rutgers ring. Now he is a smart well respected guy. For them that would have been a good splash move but their AD literally has no point to serve. For you guys you should get a top tier established or up and coming guy.

Monty Williams has a presence about him. The recruits and families would absolutely love him. He is from the DC Metro area originally, and would clean house in recruiting. There are a LOT of NBA players and coaches that speak glowingly of him and would not hesitate to vouch for him.

Avery Johnson has been doing a very good job for Alabama, but like I said, I think he has a lot more name value and has a great personality for it, so that may not translate to Monty Williams.
