There's a whole lot going on there. Sounds like it was a pretty half-assed hire if a simple Google search is all it took to find a conviction. Not sure what the threshold is to get hired to teach at a university but it should have at least came up.

Or maybe he was the only applicant because it was a position that paid with bags of rice and Campbell's soup while the tenured professor took a sabbatical to South America?
