The Ruiz guy who owns Life Wallet just paid $800K for an All Big 12 guard. Wong may be the better player so I mean, yea, if that kid got $800K, he's probably going to have to match that on Wong.
Since when do college players have agents negotiating college playing?
Since when do college players have agents negotiating college playing?
Seems like they'd be foolish not to now in the NIL era. Now they get to hold their college programs hostage like this guy's doing with even less regulation or oversight than the pros have.Since when do college players have agents negotiating college playing?
The thing is....it SHOULD BE the next step. But not a free for all, Wild Wild West....When your paying coaches millions and signing tv contracts in the billions is this not the next step !
The solution is easy. This is nothing but a result of the NCAA and Emmert being a asleep at the wheel.
This moved too far and too fast, especially for an inept organization like the NCAA. This is just the tip of the iceberg. What happens when kids start demanding more money in season and threaten to sit out? Kids aren’t playing for the schools anymore, they’re playing for the boosters or collectives that pay them.
The next president of the NCAA needs to address this on day one. I have no idea what the solution is, as it’s going to be hard to walk back 6-7 figure payouts. The kids should absolutely get paid, but this Wild West approach to NIL coupled with the portal is absolutely hurting college basketball.
The solution is effing far from easy. The solution is easy.
1. NIL payments have to come from legit companies and not booster collectives
2. Deals have to be at market value or else is considered pay for play. The Miami transfer isn't worth 800K to Life Wallet. Life Wallet is owned by a Miami booster and that is obviously pay for play. It would be easy to see what type of deals NBA guys get and compare. Would an NBA starter be worth 800K to Life Wallet? The answer is no.
Where do you think large boosters get their money ?The solution is easy.

You missed my pointWhere do you think large boosters get their money ?
A… from their highly successful business.
Hmmm.....how bout making transfers sit out 1 year of games while going to school for free, living for free, and eating for free?Nonsense, the NCAA needs to do something about this free agency right now.
This is totally insane. This Ruiz guy is basically the "owner" of Miami football and basketball. Making deals, buying players. The NCAA has to step in soon."He has been treated by LifeWallet exceptionally well," Ruiz told ESPN on Thursday night. "If that is what he decides, I wish him well, however, I do not renegotiate. I cannot disclose the amount, but what I can say is that he was treated very fairly."
Wong then backed down.

Miami's Wong won't enter portal after NIL talks
Miami Hurricanes guard Isaiah Wong has elected not to enter the transfer portal, he told ESPN, less than 24 hours after his agent said he would transfer if his name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation wasn't increased.www.espn.com
Online education is not anywhere near what in person education is. Whether in elementary school or college. Pretty universal finding with a lot of data coming out of Covid. This will all stop when people realize they can get just as good an education online and stop paying $50,000+ a year in tuition. Then all of these higher education institutions will go broke and big-time college athletics will be a thing of the past. Seriously, what a joke all of this is! A real shame.
The difference is it’s actually in the open now-When the idiots passed pay to play for amateurs who were already being Compensated
The other big difference is you don't have to sit a year if you transfer, now the rich schools, with the rich boosters could look at good players from the poorer schools, like Addison and buy them at any moment, mid career. So why should USC or Bama bother recruiting big classes of high school kids? Just take the 5 stars and then backfill with whoever stars as a freshman or sophomore at the other schools. The difference is it’s actually in the open now-
These kids were always getting paid
Hundreds of thousand dollars to a billionaire is chump change .The money will run out eventually. All bubbles burst.
Yea, with the rules the way they are, I dont see how the "money runs out." This is the richest country in the world and enough rich guys like college football. I mean maybe if we have another Great Depression but barring that, the money will always be thereHundreds of thousand dollars to a billionaire is chump change .
So what do these guys get out of this? Just bragging rights? I'd rather fund a bunch of nobody students who can't play sports, so they don't have giant student loans to pay off... and I'm the bad guyYea, with the rules the way they are, I dont see how the "money runs out." Same as the oligarchs and royal families that own Euro soccer teams. Its real-life fantasy sportsSo what do these guys get out of this? Just bragging rights? I guess, and less responsibility than actually buying some pro sports team.Same as the oligarchs and royal families that own Euro soccer teams. Its real-life fantasy sports
If I was worth billions, why wouldn't I pay recruits a few million each to hopefully win a NC? You have to spend your money on something.I guess, and less responsibility than actually buying some pro sports team.

Why would it though? These boosters have spent years buying new locker rooms and increasing coaching salaries and putting water slides in the players lounges, etc. for no obvious personal gain. Why would paying players be where they draw the line? If anything this is less absurd than them buying more amenities for the team facility that is already first class. The money will run out eventually. All bubbles burst.
Donations to the schools are tax deductible and if your ego needs feeding they’ll name something after you if you give them enough moola . While I can’t imagine how NIL can be sold to the IRS as anything other than a gift because there’s no way some college hoops or Fb player is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to their business interests . Will be interesting to see how this all works out . ( I’m sure to some tax considerations won’t be an issue )Why would it though? Thinking about it, me the bad, classless person to many on this board. I'd rather pay tuition for some regular nobodies so they aren't stuck with giant student loan debt, than enrich A-hole football playersIf I was worth billions, why wouldn't I pay recruits a few million each to hopefully win a NC? Booster NIL funds are essentially sports marketing companies. Your contribution to the collective, is supposed to yield you a profit. But the collectives are designed to lose money.Donations to the schools are tax deductible and if your ego needs feeding they’ll name something after you if you give them enough moola .
