1. Chris predicted it on his Tuesday night show. We got the win and looked bad. We can throw some of it out and count it as a rivalry game and other aspects we have to really work on. Bottom line is we won the Brawl.
2. If I didn't know I would have guessed WVU was the team with a senior heady OL/DL.
We weren't getting to Daniels the first 56 minutes. I know he was getting the ball out quick, but you would think a guy would come free once or twice. Stills made more of an impact than Kancey. Baldonado's only impact was his stupid selfish penalty.
I'll have to go back and watch who we rotated on the OL to get a better feel. Seeing what others have posted about Jacoby, Goncalves/Taylor, etc. More concerned about the run blocking that pass protection. Kedon had some bad sacks, but I think the pass protection didn't hurt us. I didn't see our 5th/6th year seniors moving the line of scrimmage in the run game.
3. Kudos to Rodney Hammond. He looks even more built from last year. Plays big in big games. I think Izzy still has the higher ceiling, but Hammond is Mr. Consistent. Looked great in that catch and run out of the backfield. That will be key next week against Tennessee. Hope the late targeting didn't knock Hammond out for next week. We couldn't run the ball last year in Knoxville. Worried about our OL against that SEC o line. Hammond can help us push the pile if he plays.
4. Bub Means. On his first catch the football was low and loose. Not surprised it was stripped on his next catch. Means also didn't look that fluid running after the catch. At least they went right back to him after the fumble.
5. Frank Cignetti. I think we all feel a lot different if Means catches that deep ball for a TD.
I definitely thought we would have thrown it more, but you saw some positives. Seemed like we went to the shotgun more late and it was effective. Broadcast commented on the quick RPOs.
Also appreciated the skill player rotation. It is clear (shouldn't be a surprise based on what he did in 209) that the top play makers are going to play. We rotated a lot of players last year and I understand you want to keep players fresh. You also need your top guys to play. The RB rotation was great last night. Looks like Davis is 4th string. C'Bo got his shot as a 3rd back and fumbled that chance away.
6. Prevent defense. Remember all those 3rd/4th and longs UNC converted in 2016? I know there have been many other times. Riddick was talking on the broadcast about Pitt needing to be smart and play the sticks on 4th and 16. Then they show the play and we have 9 guys within 3 yards of the line and the two safeties still not at 16 yards. Maybe some of the experts can comment on our defense in that spot. I think this needs to be the biggest talking point from last night. That is the defense we play on 4th and 16? We were within a few inches of that football not hitting the ground and WVU ties it or tries to go for two.
