Joe Starkey was referencing an article on the radio today about the Mountain West. He was talking about the absurdity that they have some teams with a higher NET than Pitt, and that the league as a whole is ranked higher than the ACC.
I tried a twitter and Google search for an article but couldn’t find it, so what I’m about to say is working off memory.
Starkey essentially said that the mountain west has ZERO marquee wins out of conference. Not the regular season champ, not the 2nd place team…but the entire conference as a whole has not one marquee win. His definition of a marquee win is one vs a ranked opponent.
He also said the conference hasn’t won an NCAA tourney game in several years. So there’s that.
The conference has 5 teams ranked higher than Pitt in the NET. 5 teams.
I’m sure a couple of you will reply with a post saying that those 5 teams have had a better season than Pitt. But sorry, I’m preemptively disagreeing with you.
