7-1 Riverhounds according to their twitter.Anyone have access to lineup for this game or new roster?
So a USL level team is that much better than a D1 top 20 team?7-1 Riverhounds according to their twitter.
Was 2-0 at half and 3-1 until the 72nd minute when they got their last 4 vs what I am assuming were Pitt subs.

I don't know about that? A lot of the USL players are international players, even if they are playing for El Salvador or Jamaica they are still grown men pros and play international matches against top competition.I used to say the ACC was better than the USL but I wouldn't say that anymore.
Guessing, at this point, the Pitt team is as far from a finished product as it has been in some time.No. I am not convinced Pitt played a full first team, perhaps due to injuiries or what have you.
I will say that USL has gotten a lot better in the last 5 or so years. I used to say the ACC was better than the USL but I wouldn't say that anymore. I think last year's Pitt team would have beaten the Riverhounds. Not sure about this year's team.
I said used to be. Not long ago, it was D2 players and low-level D1 players. You'd go to a game and get a roster and see the guys played at like Ohio Wesleyan, Bucknell, schools like that. Now its major D1 guys and internationals who cant quite make MLS. You often see the USMNT struggle with some Central American team with a few USL players and think WTF is the US doing. That T&T team that prevented them from going to the WC had a few USL guys. I think one of the goal scorers was out of contract because he was cut by his USL team.I don't know about that? If I remember correctly, one year Riverhounds GK was called into the Gold Cup, I think with Jamaica? Or some Caribbean team?I said used to be. Yes, he beat the USMNT in the Gold Cup semis in maybe like 2015 or 2017 or around thereIf I remember correctly, one year Riverhounds GK was called into the Gold Cup, I think with Jamaica? Or some Caribbean team?
Right, it was 2015, my daughter and I actually went to the quarterfinals in Baltimore, USA beat Cuba 6-0, and we must've seen this guy play in the second game, Jamaica beat Haiti 1-0. Really hot July day, we where lucky, for $47/each we got club seats, with an airconditioned inside area, at the time they went for $250 for Ravens games.Yes, he beat the USMNT in the Gold Cup semis in maybe like 2015 or 2017 or around there
No. Not necessarily. You also see D2 teams beating D1 teams in the Spring as well.So a USL level team is that much better than a D1 top 20 team?
Absolutely. I am expecting reinforcements.Spring isn’t a measuring stick for any D1 team. Especially in this current situation of covid year, transfers, portal, etc etc.
Vid and Constanzo will go to Europe in May and bring in 19, 20, 21 year olds who cant quite make their senior club team. That's what they do. That said, there's a good bit of firepower returning. I am guessing some of those guys didnt play.Absolutely. I am expecting reinforcements.
The team will be much. Better than it is now.
my daughter just lost a spring game to a D2 team because they had 1 sub because of injuries, transfers through the portal, and graduation (seniors don’t play)
Speaking of HS/College age girls soccer, I turned on a U20 women's game on FS2 accidentally because I thought it was the men's tournament and I was curious. Stupid YTTV doesn't tell you if its men or women playing until its too late. It was Puerto Rico vs Guatemala. I am certain Guatemala would have finished near the bottom of a strong WPIAL section.A few years ago my niece's team asked one of their graduating seniors to play a couple spring games with them because even with her they only had 14 players because of injuries and whatnot. Basically 2 goalies and 12 outfield players.
There are a handful of good countries out there. But is it much different than USA mens hockey?Speaking of HS/College age girls soccer, I turned on a U20 women's game on FS2 accidentally because I thought it was the men's tournament and I was curious. BTW, I read an article today that the Italian women's league will be professional next year. Huh? Apparently the teams had a 30K Euro/year salary cap this year so each player was making like 1500 Euros per year. And we cheer when our USWNT beats an Italian team full of teachers, nurses, and office workers who play soccer on Saturdays.
People will attack me and want to pretend it's not true, but in a lot of countries around the world STILL, old school traditional, they'd still expect girls to play with dolls and learn to cook and clean for when they have a husband and playing opportunities, even in childhood are severely limited and girls are even discouraged from sports. That's a big reason why the USA dominates most women's sports, nobody else is trying even 10% as hard.Speaking of HS/College age girls soccer, I turned on a U20 women's game on FS2 accidentally because I thought it was the men's tournament and I was curious. Its just crazy that a soccer-crazy country like Argentina may not have a U18 team who could beat Upper St. ClairThere are a handful of good countries out there. But is it much different than USA mens hockey?
I had one daughter play collegiately and one currently playing collegiately. Both had/have American teammates/roommates play internationally for other countries and these players were/are just ok. Currently my daughters roommate plays for Argentina. She’d be a good WPIAL player, but not all state or all American level. Then again, all state and all American awards are 75% political anyways.
Well oddly enough USC is in a funk right now. So they’d beat USC handily. But maybe not Moon or NA. .Its just crazy that a soccer-crazy country like Argentina may not have a U18 team who could beat Upper St. Clair
That's part of it but I think the US having elite women's team sports is due to another factor:People will attack me and want to pretend it's not true, but in a lot of countries around the world STILL, old school traditional, they'd still expect girls to play with dolls and learn to cook and clean for when they have a husband and playing opportunities, even in childhood are severely limited and girls are even discouraged from sports. Yeah, like what I said. It's all intertwined, cultural. American culture drives girls playing sports as being a really positive, important thing, and you have a 3% chance to get a 10% scholarship! But it's also true, that most countries are not buying into this mindset that there are 20 genders and boys and girls are the same, most still hold views of men and women like the USA had in the 70s and 80s. Not meaning that women don't have more opportunities, but in many places even European places "alternative" lifestyles still aren't "celebrated" people still want traditional gender roles of THE TWO genders to apply and scoff at a lot of the "modern" attitudes. That's part of it but I think the US having elite women's team sports is due to another factor:
- Americans are on their own to pay for college unlike most, if not all other Western countries.
The allure of a college scholarship has created a huge demand for young female athletes and while 95% of parents know their daughter isn't getting an athletic scholarship, a female sports culture has been built in this country that trickles down all the way to the lowest-level rec league players. Female sports are "mainstream" here and not many other places. And it starts with the fact that that there D1 and D2 teams who many girls aspire to play at.
Argentina doesn’t invest in women’s soccer. Its just crazy that a soccer-crazy country like Argentina may not have a U18 team who could beat Upper St. Clair
Argentina doesn’t invest in women’s soccer.
Charles Barkley agrees. You see him last night? But when the USWNT beats them 6-0, idiot fans think the USWNT is some special team. They are the best because almost nobody else plays.
I had to google what you're talking about. Wow, although I like Barkley, he is definitely an idiot, but a fun one. He is the perfect example of someone with no clue about why the USWNT wins and the men don't.Charles Barkley agrees. You see him last night?
I was simply stating Argentina doesn’t value investing in women’s soccer. One of the top men’s teams and not an ounce of interest in women. But when the USWNT beats them 6-0, idiot fans think the USWNT is some special team. They are the best because almost nobody else plays.
I kind of find the Lloyd interview interesting. She mentions terrible culture within the national team. She says what everyone knows about the culture, she just didn’t say what we all know she wants to say.I had to google what you're talking about. There's also that Carli Lloyd article today about the toxic culture of their team. My God, what primadonnas. I cant take it. They beat basically all beer league teams and because Americans are too stupid to realize it, they are celebrities. I am not sure any grouping of American athletes have made so much money by beating such bad competition.

I didn’t see the Lloyd interview. She didn’t say anything about Rapinoe being a bully and a bitch did she?I kind of find the Lloyd interview interesting. That was where we wished she went, but she stopped basically at just saying terrible culture. Reading between the lines, we know what she meant when she brought up politics.I didn’t see the Lloyd interview. She didn’t say anything about Rapinoe being a bully and a bitch did she?
THIS^^^But when the USWNT beats them 6-0, idiot fans think the USWNT is some special team. They are the best because almost nobody else plays.
That's a serious exaggeration. A lot of the same schools and conferences where taking the sport as seriously as Pitt, not 10, easily dozens... https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/1937-polls.htmlThe USWNT reminds me of like when Pitt won 8 pre-WW2 National Championships. There were maybe like 10 programs who took football seriously. Though, to be fair, pre-WW2 college football was much more competitive than international women's soccer.
