2.6 share (8.7 million viewers ) to 2.4 (7 million).

That's not bad. All else equal, the Big Ten does get better TV ratings than the ACC but its not so much higher to warrant the amount of air time they get on ESPN and ESPN2 at the expense of the ACC.

Off the top of my head, there were only 4 Saturday ACC games not involving Clemson or FSU that aired on ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2 and they were all UNC games.

What have we learned? Large State Universities in non pro areas participating in big games tend to draw better than others. Never would have figured that out.

That Big 10 game was close the whole time as well where it looked like the ACC game was over mid way through the 4th.

Two great games though.

Iowa, MSU, Clemson, and UNC would pretty much fit that profile.
What is your definition of a "non-pro area"? MSU is a one hour drive from the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings. A majority of its students and alums are from metro Detroit. There are in the neighborhood of 100,000 MSU alums living in the metro Detroit area. Detroit is a HUGE sports town. Plus, the Lansing metroplex has about 500,000 people in it.

I don't think MSU really fits your profile. It certainly doesn't compare to Iowa or Clemson by any demographic measure.
