My Early Prediction Looks Coming True......"Running Game Takes Shape Behind Freshman Barkley, LINK!"

I stated last year, I thought Penn State's Barkley will become one of the Top Freshmen Running Backs and one of the Best Running Backs in the Nation, and this year! What was Rutgers loss is Penn State gain! It is my belief Penn State running Game will improve vastly between the next few games and into the season, due to Barkley.

Sanders should reconsider his Commitment if he wants to be a Top Running Backs and play right away at Pitt next year, in my opinion.

LINK:
For tempo, ball control and quarterback protection purposes — and simply because it's a good thing to have — Penn State requires a strong running game.

A large portion of it might have surfaced Saturday against Buffalo in the form of freshman Saquon Barkley.

Might have? Buffalo did not pose the sternest test. The Bulls of the Mid-American Conference have a young defense and still are adjusting to a new coach. But speed, power and a unique leaping ability — the world is enjoying video of Barkley's hurdle of a would-be tackler — show themselves regardless of the opponent.

Barkley “being able to make people miss tackles is helpful to us,” Penn State coach James Franklin understated after Barkley carried 12 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, all after halftime, to highlight the 27-14 win.

“He doesn't run like a freshman. He's making people miss but he's also breaking tackles. You usually don't get that mix with a freshman.”

Listed at 5-foot-11, 222 pounds, Barkley poses a different problem from Akeel Lynch, the veteran starter (for now) at running back, who runs hard but lacks breakway speed. Lynch pounded out just 46 yards in 19 carries against the Bulls.

As one of the team leaders, Lynch gave no indication of being threatened by the new kid on the block. “If someone is (running) like that you have to give him the ball,” Lynch said. “Saquon took over the game.”Barkley, who graduated from high school in the spring, clearly has much to learn. Franklin is making sure not to go overboard with the accolades. At least not yet.

“He's showed some flashes, allowed his role to continue as he gets more comfortable and confident,” Franklin said. “He needs to improve in pass protection in terms of responsibilities. ... He just has to keep working.”

Franklin also made sure to boost Lynch, who scored Penn State's only touchdown, a 42-yard run, in loss to Temple. “I feel Akeel has a chance to be a special back,” Franklin said.

Now, about Barkley's leap. It wasn't the first. Franklin said Barkley did it all the time in high school. But when he arrived on campus, “he said, I'm not going to do it anymore,” Franklin said. “I said, ‘That doesn't make sense because it's illegal to hurdle people, and it's legal in college.' I'm glad that he brought that back out of his bag of tricks.”

Meanwhile, another freshman has a few tricks of own to assist the running game. But Brandon Polk is a receiver. His specialty is the end-around, or jet sweep. Polk has done it five times in the two games for 95 yards. Not only does the yardage help, opposing defenses are so aware of it now that faking the play can lead to other good things.

Looking for help: The kicking game remains a concern. New kicker Joey Julius missed a 49-yard field-goal attempt, and punter Daniel Pasquariello failed to bury the Bulls deep in their territory, after which they put together their first scoring drive.

“We need to clean up our punting and be much more consistent,” Franklin said. “I think that will be helpful, especially with the type of football we are trying to play.”

Captain, why so much interest in ups?

It's about recruiting. It's about Pitt keeping the best local talent in order to be able to compete at the highest level. PSU is our main rival for recruits. If Sanders lived anywhere else, this wouldn't be a topic of discussion....

The way I see it.......Pitt is playing them the next 4 years, so better follow them right now and see how they win and with whom? In addition, Pitt competes with Penn state and WVU every minute of every day!

I am a Pitt Fan first and foremost and always have been since 1963, but I always enjoyed playing Penn State and WVU and want all 3 teams plus Notre Dame, and I follow USC, KSU, Stanford, PENN, Temple, Michigan and MSU, and Virginia too?

I really enjoy watching Coach Narduzzi making changes at Pitt too, and he is dealing with learning about his new players as teh team encounters injuries and Players coming back from injuries under a New Coaching Staff and his own development at a New Head Coach.

He reminds me how Cowher took over for Noll and started playing players sooner unlike bringing them along like Tunch Ikin and Barry Foster being put in the Lineups slowly, he just gave them the chance to play more and see if they play right away and do the job, or find someone else.

I see Coach Narduzzi is coaching up the Pitt Players and he played 5 New Players on Defense just last game, and is playing Freshmen
more often than Franklin or Holgrosen and we shall see if he can beat Iowa this week?

In addition, I love he is preparing Petreman and Voytok to be te QBs based on who si hotter and i just wish Chaney develops Running plays for Voytik.

If you recall, the first time Pitt Fans ever saw Voytik it was in the Bowl Game and he ran many plays and won that game just like he did VT last year? If I can that is part of his Game so should have Chryst/Rudolph sooner than they waited so long, and so should Narduzzi/Chaney right now.

If anyone looks at Voytik's Wins in High School he won with his feet as much as his arm, and that just makes him more comfortable and playable as the perfectionists he is as a Student and Quarterback?

We can beat Penn State next year with both QBs and we need to beat out Franklin's Penn State and Holgrosen's WVU on recruitsand developing players and teams like Dantonio does at MSU.

So why not follow PSU & WVU once in a while, and a number of PSU Posters all disagreed with me about Barkley not playing except briefly in 2015 and I knew Barkley may be the Best Running Back Recruit in the Nation, and Franklin sees it too?

Just like I predicted with one of my Hunches, and why Mike Sanders needs to reconsider his commitment just liek Shady McCoy did and the rest is History, as far as Shady's career at Pitt and in the NFL Today!

In summary, Pitt Defense will playing against Barkley in 2016 and 2017, so I am following and posting how PSU is doing this year to predict next, and WVU too!

:rolleyes:Exactly, I also predicted Sanders will be sitting on the bench behind Barkley if he goes to Penn State while at Pitt he can start right away, just like Dorsett, Fitzgerald, Revis, and Shady did when they came to Pitt, and that is no longer a Hunch but soon to become a Fact!

So I take it you feel Conner will still go pro after this season, even with his injury?

I think Connor will work himself back before the season ends and goes in the First 3 Rounds in the NFL Draft because he is a very special Player in the Tradition of how Pitt Finds, Produces, and Makes them all great in the NFL, just like Schmidt, Ditka, Dorsett, Jackson, Doleman, Martin, Revis, Fitzgerald, Shady, and many more!

Something Sanders should consider even if Connor stays at Pitt. Sanders brings his own skills and talent to Pitt where he can start as a Freshmen far easier than at Penn State? Just ask Whitehead?

i believe sanders has been giving it more thought recently. i'm not saying he will flip but it is possible.

how about this for recruiting. what if we closed with sanders, hamlin, hudson, pugh, gilbert and mathews. and about 3-4 more guys added on.

You and others know far more than me on recruiting status of Players, but I can tell you now, Mike Sanders coming to Pitt will never be a regret, and he can ask Fitzgerald, Shady, and Whitehead about that more than trusting my own views?

If I'm Sanders I'm flipping to Pitt!!!Barkley looks like the real deal up there but its still early in the year.Swift is the top RB in PA and top 15 in the country and PSU is leading in his recruitment,he's a 2017 recruit.Just my opinion but it means nothing outside of Greene County and very little inside it!
