OK, so I was banned over there about 15 years ago but when Rivals changed some stuff around this year, old "bannings" went away (hear that Titleman) so I went over to their board to to get some insight on their defense. I was very cautious to make sure I didn't post anything negative. It was basically "how is your defense" post.

Now, I'll give you that a lot of PSU posters are aware of my anti-PSU postings on this board but I've never seen the type of responses I got. There were many posts containing swear words, the usual personal insults, but most surprisingly, threats of physical violence. And this was because I asked a question about their defense.

To show you just how reasonable my post was, some PSU fans replied that they didnt understand why PSU fans were so upset about the post. Some said they appreciated a Pitt fan posting an accurate football-related post. Some engaged in real football discussion.

I guess it comes down to this:

Its their board and its ONLY for PSU fans. If you are a fan of another school, you are simply not allowed because I mean it when I say there was nothing in my post that was negative at all towards PSU. I even said if Pitt's OL cant win the line of scrimmage, I dont think we can win (which is something I believe).

You can count the decent fans over there on one hand and still have fingers left over. Do what I did: create a new username and pretend to be one of them. Then you can go out in a blaze of glory at a time of your own choosing. Until then, you can lurk and enjoy their idiocy.

It was only one post and I haven't read that board in 15 years but ita given me a new perspective. I honestly feel bad for some of those people. And its the uneducated Pennsyltuckian hillbillies. They're the ones that give PSU a bad name.

Its like we say about ND fans. If you go to a game in South Bend, you are welcomed by polite, cordial ND fans, the true ND fans. When they go on the road, the local yocal ND "fans" who didnt go to school there and have never been in Indiana act like fools.

I think the problem with PSU's fanbase is there are simply too many hillbillies. Half their fanbase is WVU-like or SEC-like. Poor, rural, uneducated, easily influenced (these are the Joebots). The other half are regular people.

Same thing happens here. Sometimes a reasonable PSU fan wants to talk football, and gets jumped with 3-4 "Joe Knew" posts that have nothing to do with the topic.

Yeah, I won't post over there like I do on other opponents boards around actual football discussions. The whole Sandusky sympathy issue and conspiracy issues echoed by that entire board is going pretty nuts and very minimal actual intelligence about football on the free board. The thing that secured it is some of the racist statements that have been said on BWI and have been allowed to stay up, but I guess that's what they like given they proudly display confederate flags at State College tailgates. Is what it is I guess when you are not around diversity or value it.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. From reading BWI, it seems to me that the biggest idiots over there are actually PSU grads, and they make no bones about it. Now, I'm not saying that all PSU grads are idiot fans, just that the fact that they are alumni doesn't lessen the degree of idiocy to be found.

They are people who were raised during times when Nit football and JVP were respected and even loved, so they put all of their eggs in that basket. They lived for that basket. It filled a void in their lives. It was the only show in town. It became their religion. "WE ARE, baby!"

But now that their basket has been run over by a steamroller, they have nothing. Everything that they believed in was shattered - whether they overtly accept it or not. As a result, they've become venomous. Instead of assigning accountability (and blame) to those who are truly responsibility for their situation, it's Sara Ganim's fault; it's their BOT's fault; it's McQueary's fault; and for some of them - for whatever imagined reason - it's somehow Pitt's fault, too.

I wonder if Mr. Franklin has an exit strategy. Puzzling that PSU has always had such success recruiting black players, as I was warned against going to college there 30 years ago because of how bad the racial climate was in that area.

I am sorry, I think it is a very vocal but minority few. That being said, you have to realize when you have been ridiculed and constantly berated over crimes committed by a former football coach but has nothing to do with you, your skin gets thin, and you tend to circle the wagons. I think you will find Penn State fans as good as any in the nation, but when that is turned against you, well then you do become sensitive to any criticism by outsiders.

Not reasonable football posts. There is one one this board by a PSU fan now. If a PSU fan posts something reasonable, rational, and coherent, Pitt fans will reply in the same manner.

The reason you are berated is because you defend paterno like a god. How you can't understand what is wrong with that boggles my mind.

We can agree to disagree. I believe PSU has a very large "Pennsyltuckian" fanbase and they are the root of the problems with their fanbase. Sure, there are Cultist grads but I just believe its the uneducated hillbillies who mostly give PSU a bad name.

Personally, I know a lot of PSU grads and all are good people and not Cultist Joebots.

One thing I have noticed in sports over the years, is that you have a large percentage of the population that take on the identity of a sports program to try and boost their self esteem. Pennsylvania is full of people who's biggest accomplishment in life is to be part of a fan group attached to PSU. That way they can strut around saying, we beat your team or we're going to kick your teams ass, etc.
However, when the bubble burst , they no longer have that and are very bitter and angry. Thus the severity of the attacks on those who speak out against the cult or what they stand for.

Penn State fans have long been insufferably arrogant and condescending towards other schools and their fans, particularly Pitt. You have been immersed in the mythology that PSU football was pristine, doing everything the right way...and that Paterno was the brilliant and benevolent architect of the most noble football program in the country. PSU fans have demeaned and ridiculed other schools as far beneath them...and have done so for decades. The tower you built for yourselves came crashing down in humiliating fashion and now you reap what you have sown.

My in-laws live about an hour or so from PSU's campus. So, I have plenty of people in my extended family who are PSU fans and not d-bags. And yes, I'm well aware of the redneck factor in that part of the country.

If psuro is still posting hot chick I'd swing over. Beyond that I've stopped and my BP and IQ have each improved ten points

Every Penn state grad I worked with were nice people except when discussing PSU football. Then the cult type attitude kicked in and became Joe this and Joe that. It cracked me up how quickly they became so We ARE special and no "outsider" can understand PSU/joepa connection.

Exactly. The child sex scandal became blood in the water for everyone who was disgusted with the "holier-than-thou" attitude initiated by JVP, then happily adopted by his legion of followers.

All of the people who put-up with the years of "we're better than you" insults are finally getting their revenge. The insufferable bully finally got punched in the nose, and everyone is taking the opportunity to pile-on. The fact that a sizable portion of Nit Nation remains in denial and continues to defend JVP is prolonging peoples' desire to pile-on even more. Their lack of contrition invites even more abuse.

You are 100% wrong and letting your politics skew your opinion. Some of the worst offenders over there reside in Allegheny county. And don't you live in Belle Vernon? I wouldn't look down my nose at Central PA residents. In any event, it's like one of the big Rivals writers put it recently when he said he wouldn't visit any free board on any of the rivals sites. They are largely all the same and full of the same type of people who lack knowledge and objectivity.

I completely forgot about titleman. Refresh my memory. Which name is he posting under now?

Not politics, I just think there are a lot of poverty-stricken Appalachian rednecks in the middle of the state who are diehard PSU fans.

Do you really think he needs an exit strategy? Unless he is the most irresponsible guy in the world, if he could not retire on the initial contract they extended to him--he needs to hire a financial advisor and do some soul searching. Regardless of how it turns out for JimmyFranks in State College, he is set for life financially. I hope he stays there a long time, continues to suck them dry, and produces mediocre results for many years to come. Hail to Pitt!

Agree with that completely. I think that is why the Nitter fans now brag about attendance instead of winning or how clean the program is. Penn St. has been a big flop in the Big 10 since joining the conference. Ohio St. kicks the **** out of them most years, and now "Success With Honor" has been proven to be a fraud. All that is left is attaching self-esteem to how many people show up to watch a 7-5 or 8-4 team every year.

Its funny. Although I have PSU friends and family who are rational people, anytime we discuss Pitt football at all, attendance is ALWAYS brought up. PSU fans LOVE attendance. I said it before, PSU fans are actual "attendance" fans. They root for it, they follow it, they track it, they are good at it. I mean it makese sense. PSU is still really good at attendance ao that's what fan hang their hat on.

A PSU friend of mine told me he isnt going but his friends bought season tickets and couldn't believe how low the price was compared to PSU. I said we dont have the demand and he said that will change because.Narduzzi is a good coach. I said no it wont because we compete with 3 pro teams and have 400K fewer alumni than Penn State.

its beyond dumb that pitt fans want to post on a psu board, same goes for Nitters that post on our boards. every single thread goes the same way, which is a disaster.

then people constantly complain when they get banned, like they are surprised.

Except I went on for a legitimate reason. I legitimately wanted their thoughts on their DL and defense. Honestly, it was not an anti-negative PSU post in the least. I know their history so I was very careful to word it in a way that could not be perceived as negative or disrespectful to them. And many PSU fans responded and thanked me for a post discussing football strategy. But then it got deleted and I was banned. Somehow, the poster that threatened my life probably didn't. Not that I am afraid of an anonymous internet death threat I was very surprised to receive one after a reasonable post that was not negative. This is why I truly believe most of the folks over there are the poverty-stricken uneducated Pennsyltuckians. I give PSU alums more credit than that.

I've only been personally berated by fans from two schools.

-Once waiting to go into my own stadium when I played college football and it was by a couple of old biddies from Notre Dame.

-Many times by PSU guys who happily pick at everything Pitt.

That said, I have no problems existing on BWI. Even got into it with Oblivax and ChiTownLion. Oh, and that creepy PnnyLion guy who sent me a bunch of threatening messages.

Hopefully you are not such a fool that you believe this guy's friends actually purchased season tickets? The biggest urban legend going is that Nits purchased Pitt season tickets. You can buy Nit season tickets for $360, which is hardly pricey. Hail to Pitt!

I was banned before I even made 1 post over there. Best that. Lmao

Their cultist behavior is what makes them so much fun to needle.

I fondly recall the glory days when MBE would poke fun at them on this board, and then watch the lurkers whine.
There would be entire threads on BWI devoted to personal attacks as he de-pantsed the JoeBots.

Consider yourself fortunate that the equally creepy Todd Brewster/francofan did not offer to wash your back or give you some hands on help with personal hygiene.
