- Very encouraging in my mind. I thought it would take some time for this team to come together because of the graduate transfers and injuries. I do think Gonzaga is slightly overrated. The front court is one of the top three in the country, but the back court is not quite there. With that being said, it was an impressive start and it should give this team some confidence.
- Jamel sitting basically the entire half should make you feel even better. However, I thought Alonzo sitting for the same reason was just as critical. Right now, there seems to be a significant drop off at center when he is off the floor. I like Ryan and think he has a chance to be a nice player, but he is still raw. We all know Rafael is not in shape and he has fallen behind. It remains to be seen if he can get caught up and in shape to contribute this year. While ANO was in there, we saw the block and a couple of altered shots. With him on the bench, it was much easier for Gonzaga to utilize their high-low game.
- Gonzaga's post players pass very well. They play well with each other and have great chemistry. Not only are they huge, but they have vision and pass well. Wiltjer will play in the NBA. It was a great experience for Pitt's group this early in the season. They need to stick with Luther and allow him to play through mistakes in the non-conference season.
- Cam Johnson also needs to play. It is well known what I think of him, but he will be needed when the offense goes on draughts. We did see a scoring draught for a stretch there, and that is going to happen with this team. There are a lot of bodies to rotate in. With so many players in the mix, it may be beneficial to run a soft press to take away 5 or 6 seconds of the shot clock.
- Was a little surprised that Damon wasn't ready. I am not sure of the timetable and their exact plan for hom, but I do know they really like him. He has shown very well all summer when he was healthy. Rozelle Nix also had a walking boot on. Obviously not a huge deal with the redshirt, but you do hope that it isn't serious so that he can continue to stay in shape and keep the weight down.
- Gonzaga was a very nice challenge and this staff can get a lot out of it. It is unfortunate that they won't get the credit for the game in the RPI, but I have heard that the selection committee will consider the game off of the record in March.
