1. I could tell as soon as I pulled into the parking lot that the fan base wasn't showing out for this game. I missed it when they announced the official attendance number (can someone fill me in?) but if I had to guess I'd say somewhere between 30k-40k. This issue has been discussed to great lengths here so I'll just leave it at that rather than getting into it too much. Just disappointing to have poor attendance at our biggest game of the season.

2. I really enjoy the rivalry we have developed with Tech. The games are always competitive and I have yet to have a bad experience with any of their fans. My fiancé and I sat next to two Tech fans that made the trip for the game and both were very cool and knowledgeable. They even commented on how cool of a city the 'burgh is.

3. Offense - It took us a quarter and a half to get get going but we were pretty dominant after the slow start. We are spoiled with our offensive line - not many d lines in the entire country can match up. Conner is an absolute stud, you can really tell he's getting his legs back because he was dominant last night. Our receiving/TE corp is developing nicely, really excited for next season with Reeves and Clark in the fold.

4. Defense - Im judging this group off of the entire game's body of work. This game would've been a blow out if our d didn't force them into 3 FGs early in the game - the o really put them in bad positions early in the game. The second half was abysmal. Our corners are not good, terrible to be honest. No matter who they throw out there we get burned on the deep ball. By the 3rd quarter, Tech was running the exact same play over and over - deep ball into one on one coverage. I know a lot on here are mad about the PI calls but I honestly think we were lucky to not have more called - our corners are that bad. Are you listening Mr. Wade? You could start from day 1 and succeed.

5. Coaching - This is where I'll be the most critical. I'll start by saying that I love Narduzzi and truly believe he's the man for Pitt. With that said, this game has left me with a very sour taste in my mouth. A) Our team came out slow in our biggest game of the season, following a bye week. Where's the sense of urgency? B) When will it be enough to change the game plan on defense? Where are the adjustments? Why can't we play SOME zone? Our corners stink but the fact that Narduzzi continues to put them in horrible positions and asks them to succeed is completely mind blowing to me. His comments in the presser about the kids being in the right positions to succeed but not making the plays seems unreasonable and inappropriate to say to the media. C) I love coach's intensity but am I the only one that thinks he needs to take it down a notch on the sidelines? After his tirade when he ran down the sideline after Aston's call and clapped in the ref's face, the guy behind me commented that he looked like Brian Kelly. Again, I love his fire but please just knock it down a couple of notches. D) Coach needs to beat a ranked opponent at some point. I realize he's playing with Chryst's players and its only year 2 but he's starting to develop the rep of not being able to win a big game. Am I the only one that felt like we had the better team last night?

I hope that this does not p*ss anyone off and create an argument, I just had to vent a little bit after being so disappointed last night leaving the game. Maybe this team has reached its ceiling? 8-4 with this team is much better than Chryst was ever able to accomplish. After Narduzzi gets his guys on the team (specifically CBs) I think we have a real chance to win the coastal on a regular basis.

Thoughts? Comments? Have at it fellas. Thanks for reading my rant.

I though VT had the better team, namely db's and wr's.
I think Narduzzi and Canada are good coaches and team plays hard for 60 and so far has fought off a few more pitting moments than past. I'm seeing the killer youngstowns, toledos, bowling greens, akrons, uconns, usf's etc becoming rare under them which helps credibility. The other part? actually winning coastal etc?, not so sure. Heinz fan support? Give it up .Make the stadium capacity smaller.

Honestly, I didn't think we had the better team last night. What I saw were 2 pretty evenly matched squads IMHO. VT is a good team but you have to think they're a bit concerned with their red zone offense.

Credit to Bud Foster and VT for taking away Henderson completely from the offense. Sure, Pitt scored 36 points, but VT really took away that element. And of course, when you play VT you aren't going to win the special teams battle. Their kicker turned in a great performance and they really controlled the field position all game.

The staduim seats 70,000 even with 50,000 in the seats it still will look badwith 20,000 yellow openings.

Agree about Foster, but Canada getting 36 against him with no short fields gets credit.
Our punting, kicking in general, a negative all year.

Good post!!

I will say this and think about It.

Bud Foster made an impact taking away our jet sweep.

Justin Fuente made an impact with not running the ball and having special teams ready to play

Canada made an impact some of the play calling. After the 1st quarter was marvelous.

Besides acting like a lunatic what impact dI'd Narduzzi and Conklin have on the game?

You cant deny the fact that Narduzzi never loses his players - they always fight till the end.

You're right I can't. But coming off a bye week I expect a little more
I too was disappointed in the outcome but we lost by only 1 field goal. We were not in any way blown out last night or in any of our losses this year. This team clearly takes on the attitude of its HC and fights.

Syracuse beat this team. We were home coming off a bye week and they played 3 games in 13 days. The fact that they didn't quit is great but we getting us into that bind was on him

I love the team's fight, no doubt. But I'm getting a little fed up with moral victories. What would happen if our team fought really hard AND Narduzzi threw out a couple different looks defensively? Everybody and their mother knew what Tech was doing last night. At some point doesn't Narduzzi question that his scheme isn't working? What's wrong with giving safety help at times? Our front seven was stuffing the run all night.

Losing to Syracuse by 14 was a head scratcher sandwiched between a convincing win at UNC and against the U. VT is a good team, no doubt about it. IMHO the reason they won last night was not so much an indictment on our passing defense, but the 2 turnovers early in the game. If the offense had come out of the gate swinging, I think we win this game. And I agree that is the fault of the coaching but some of it is on the players too.

I hated losing last night but I'm not nearly as disturbed by some here. I like HCPN, he has control of this team and I believe turning this program in the right direction.

I must have watched a different game. If they would have thrown the ball in the red zone instead of running it they would have score 60 points. They had 3 receivers over 100 yards. Teams have to bring a historian every time they play Pitt because they are rewriting record books. Nonetheless I digress

But they didn't and we held. You're saying if VT had called different plays they would have won convincingly. I'm saying without those 2 turnovers I think we win it outright. Both are ways to interpret the results. Neither is wrong, just opinions.

Right. You're entitled to your opinion. But neither happened and we lost. And they had the ball and nothing tells me we would have help them out of the end zone on that drive or any other. We lead them game for what 6 out of 60 minutes?

All I read here are defeated attitudes and excuses. I love Pitt and Pitt Fans , but let's stop this crap, and expect more and wins , we have talent , we have enough to win these games , coach is a nut job that needs to control himself, that will effect his judgements during the game all crazy

We're going in circles here Bob. We lost. On to Miami.

You know damn well they were looking past Syracuse because they had Miami at home in five days. Problem is Syracuse wasn't looking past them.

Bob, she is a great fan, and love to see women loving Pitt football, but she and I watch the same game many weeks, with much different takes , and mine are correct each year

I, along with all of the other VT fans, were in pain watching our red zone offense last night.....watching idiotic shovel pass attempts, runs up the gut knowing Pitt's rush defense was so strong. It was to a point where I thought myself "why don't we just start off at 2nd and 10 and just say we ran the ball on first down". It was obvious to most we had the advantage from a pass offense standpoint yet the OC insisted on running the ball. I get you have to run some but our center was getting blown up too much to run effectively. In previous games, we've had some pretty good success with screens yet it wasn't used at all last night. We had the same scenario during the Syracuse loss.....finding something that works and inexplicably going away from it.

I think both teams played hard but obviously didn't capitalize on some key opportunities. The officiating was abysmal and didn't have control of the game. That crew ought to be suspended/reprimanded.

I do like our team and the direction Fuente is taking the program. Right now we have the ability to beat a lot of teams.....but we also have shown the ability to lose to these very same teams. We have no gimmes on our schedule.

VT had the better team because of their QB and WRs. Their QB made way more plays than our QB did. We had Weah one-on-one on a critical 3rd down and our QB looked at Weah then tried to run the ball instead of leading Weah away from the DB.

Our QB doesn't put the ball in the spots where our WRs have the best chance to win the ball -- like their QB did all night.

I do think we are only a couple of players from being a pretty good team.

VT's kicker was really impressive - powerful kicks that had no chance to do anything but go thru the uprights.

Go Pitt.

Its still the same old story from all the little whiney loser boys like you. The last Coach was bad, the coach before him was bad, the coach before him was bad and so was the one before hi, The old basketball coach was bad and had to go and the current one is bad before he even loses a game. The pattern is that the whiners don't have a cue. I only wish your companies were run the way you want Pitt sports to be run and you all be fired. Then ypu'd have something to really whine about. PATHETIC ALL.

If we had 45k fans that were actually loyal and stayed the entire game, then that would be acceptable. Bailing out with the game on the line is disgusting.

In all honesty their WR's could have been called for offensive PI on pretty much every reception they made. This was not hand fighting. They were clear push offs by the WR to create space. They didn't get called one time. That's what Narduzzi was losing his mind about.

We have a good, but not deep football team.
The ACC is very, very good and deep this year.

Couldn't agree more on points (4) and (5). Our new OC has done a terrific job of putting his players in to positions where they can succeed. Even last night when VT took away the jet sweeps, the O still found a way to get it done, often in creative fashion. On the other side of the ball there are no adjustments, just doubling down on a failing strategy. Reeks of the same kind of stubbornness we saw from Graham, where system was more important than winning. Graham got hammered for his insistence on trying to pound the proverbial square peg in the round hole, this year's defensive performance and philosophy feel very similar.

Was it me or did VT throw any passes down the middle seems like all passes were quick outs and all deep passes along the sideline routes, none anywhere in the middle short or deep

Do you know how many times I was saying "we are only down by 2 points" at halftime? In previous years after those turnovers we are down 21-24 points at half.

Tech's special teams had the High Beam(er)s on last night. In Beamer's last couple of seasons they had fallen off. But the Hokies had it going on... all 3 punts landed inside the 20 without a return, VT averaged 8+ yards per punt return, forced a fumble and their kicker was 9-for-9 including six picture perfect field goals. What I don't understand is why a team like Pitt doesn't make an obsession of special teams play as Virginia Tech does. Outstanding special teams play gave VT and edge that helped turn many a game in their favor, and I doubt their special teams units were riddled with 4- and 5-star talent.
