Here are some thoughts after the game. Head is still spinning this morning.
1. I'm not making excuses but.... the refs, good god. They didnt even come close to making it an even playing field. So many missed holds. The thing that I was absolutely livid about was whoever was controlling the clock. The end of the 1st half was terrible. Our staff didnt do themselves any favors but come on. Also, the clock would start running every. single. time. before they moved the chains on 1sts. Clock started running after an incompletion / plenty. I had no idea what was going on.
2. What was frustrating about last night is we lost by a touchdown...... but we had EVERY one of our weaknesses show up. Converted TE at RT. Issues in the secondary [you know what i mean...]. Lack of playmakers and depth on defense. Chaney getting cute on offense.
3. Speaking of Chaney, I'm not one that is out for Chaney with a pitchfork. However, when we hired Chaney, I spoke with a coworker that went to Arkansas. He said the #1 issue among the fanbase was that he would running the ball down a teams throat and then hed try something that would just leave you shaking your head. Well, that appeared to rear its head a few times last night. Hope it gets resolved.
4. Run the dang bawl.
5. Lafayette Pitts........... yeesh. Is that the last we see of him? Ryan Lewis took over for him, came in and blitzed pretty well. Coleman and Hamlin [if/when he commits] could come in and and start next year. Hope Malik Henderson turns into something. We need depth at the defensive back position. Some of it could be from fatigue because, prior to getting benched, Pitts and Maddox were in on every. single. play.
6. I'm not sure what has happened to the defensive line. They looked like absolute terrors the first few games. Sure, that wasnt the best competition but they just looked different. Are they getting worn down? Are they just not good? I think its somewhere in between. Jarrett has turned into a none factor. I thought Rori Blair was playing like he was going 117 mph for the first few times but I dont know where hes been. Price has made some plays but not nearly as many. Luckily, we look to get some reinforcements at DE next year. DT.... yikes.
7. I'm not going to go into attendance because I believe its useless on here since we are all fanatics. But I think, despite the subpar attendance, the atmosphere was pretty good. Everyone there seemed pretty into it. People in my section in the club were actually standing up on crucial third downs. I wasnt the only one losing my mind. And the student section broguht it again. Hell, they even lead it. Bravo to them.
8. Once again, made adjustments and played well on defense in the second half. Just wish we could get it cleaned up in the first half. Not sure what the issue is.
9. Im sure Ive got a ton of other thoughts but what has me so frustrated is that, as I said, all of our weaknesses were exposed all at once........ and we only lost by a touchdown. I'm not sure how to interpret that but I'm going to think that weve got some good coaches. Running into some growing pains and lack of talent, need to get some things cleaned up.... but we're 6-2. I think, all things considered, we're doing pretty well.
