Full disclosure, I used to be a huge Pitt basketball fan. Then graduated in 2005, got married, had kids, oh and the team started sucking. Like a lot.
Because of the last few years of Jamie’s tenure and obviously the KS years, it became too easy to prioritize other things over watching our basketball games. And because I’m not on top of college basketball 24/7 anymore, I don’t know much about most of the guys we are looking at to replace Stallings. I google them, look up stats and generally go off what people here have to say.
Here’s my concern, and this is just for me personally. None of the names on Matt’s list are ones that I think will cause fans like me to jump right back on board. Thats probably not what they’re shooting for anyway, but maybe the reality. For me, it’d have to be a big name, one with a lot of success which really comes down to Matta, Miller and Pitino. Matta is probably taking the UGA gig so I get that he’s out. The other two obviously have their flaws, ethically and professionally.
All that considered, those are the ones for me. Take the gamble. If we don’t, I’m probably still in “wait and see mode” which probably means a few more years of really not diving back into Pitt basketball. And that’s a bummer. Just my 2 cents.
