Now that I've sobered up, here's what I think I saw from 20yd line on the visitors side:
*(I'm sure some of these items have been discussed ad nausum already in other posts).
Peterman played ok, but his offensive teammates let him down.. You upset better teams by having your best players make plays.. Our best players dropped a lot balls.. I don't at all think Peterman was the reason we lost.. I think he's a decent college QB, and played like one yesterday.
The other way you upset better teams is winning the turnover battle, and ND gave us EVERY chance to change the game, but we just wouldn't capitalize.. I could have sworn we had both onside kicks and at least one of the other two fumbles.. Alas, there were 5 loose balls that were there for the taking - we came up with one (Price's TD).. That's not gonna get it done.
Gotta continue with the run.. We abandon it way too soon.. Chaney is a bit too cute with his play calling.. How many formations did we have yesterday!? It seemed like a hundred..
Good to see Whitehead featured a bit.. Would love to see him in the slot as well.. Frankly I think that where we need him more, but as long as he's scoring TDs I guess I won't complain.
I love Avonte Maddox and thought he had good coverage for most of the day.. This defense is designed so that the corners don't get a lot of safety help.. When the rush doesn't get there, and the QB puts the ball on the money (as he did repeatedly yesterday), it makes the corners look bad.. Maddox is solid, and honestly the least of my concerns on defense..
Bottom line is the ND OL worked our front seven over yesterday.. Scary considering I don't see a lot of immediate interior DL help on the way..
*Bonus Atmosphere Thoughts!:
Big crowd, but not super loud.. Of course Pitt didn't give us a ton to get fired up about..
Speaking of loud - maybe it's just me, but the music pumped into the stadium seemed to not be as loud as usual.. Was this something that the fan committee instituted? If so, I think it was a step backwards..
That said, Rock The House by AC/DC is a stellar choice to be used throughout the game.. Great Zeppelin-like riff.. Great song. Good to see them using new music by older, yet still awesome bands
