1. N.C. State deserved the win. They kicked our tails in the first half and portions of the second. We were in position to win, but honestly they deserved it more than us. When that OL disrespectfully smacked Kancey’s helmet on the neutral zone infraction I knew NC State had come to send a message and they did.
2. I’m not sure Paris or Kenny should have stayed in the game after the hits they took. Without them, this game could have been even uglier.
3. Amazing how quickly depth can disappear. Lots of key players out and will be out for the foreseeable future.
4. No matter how good our D is (and frankly I’m not sure we know yet after this game) - we will never be a legit threat without a little bit of a running game. Embarrassing - we weren’t playing Clemson or Alabama. And isn’t Carrigan like having another OL out there? And we still can’t move the ball? WTF.
5. Bright spots:
Kenny Pickett- making a lot of good, confident throws down the field and some decent runs. He is what you want your senior QB to be.
DJ Turner - huge pickup. Also helpful in the return game. But for the love of gawd please stop stepping out of bounds 1 yard before the sticks.
Todd Sibley - he isn’t THE answer but he is an answer. I like VD but he’s not a bell cow. Izzy isn’t all the way ready yet. If Carter can’t go, at least let Sibley pick up a few yards in short yardage situations where you need explosiveness and some size.
Jordan Addison and Jared Wayne - get well soon. We need you.
Sirvocea Dennis - he’s going to be special.
Christodoulou is kicking the heck out of the ball. Good for him.
At the end of the day, the outlook appears more bleak. Tougher teams ahead and lots of injuries.
But on the bright side, maybe this will be a wake up call and we did stay in the game score-wise even though we probably didn’t deserve to be in it. Kenny is getting good at converting 3rd and 4th downs. It’s going to suck to waste a decent QB and good defense because our OL and running game stink.
