How so?is it any wonder that Pitt loses to NC State both on the floor and in recruiting? Look at the difference in coaching staffs. There is no doubt that Gottfried is getting more support from his staff than Jamie is from his.

North Carolina State does have a very good coaching staff ..... their assistant coaches are experienced, accomplished, and excellent recruiters .... they seem to compliment the head coach well..... in 4 years at NC State, Gottfried has had his team in the NCAAT all 4 years, to the round of 32 once and twice to the Sweet 16 ...... seems to be a program on the rise.
Seems to be. Maybe.
But I've been talking to someone who truly knows about these things who seems pretty certain Gottfried won't be the coach anymore come April.
The pressure and inferiority complex of NC State is tremendous.
That little nugget didn't reach the ears of the Ron Man evidently.Seems to be. Maybe.

Jamie to NC State !
Sounds like you were talking to Nostradamus .... LOL !
I still think NC State has a really good assistant coaching staff.
FWIW, in no way am I trying to disagree with the notion that NC State does indeed have a very good staff.
I'd rather not try explain who I was speaking with, but I will say this much. It's someone I know very well, and someone who is absolutely positively connected to College Hoops in so many more ways than I could ever hope of being.
He doesn't claim to be a "Nostradamus" but he has certainly told me things over the years that have proven to be true (and some that haven't come true either, I should add). I could give you many, many good examples.
In late April, he told me that Newkirk would leave (and added "you didn't hear that from me.") When I just spoke to him, he said he actually thought it was something of a BS move on Newkirk's part to wait so long -- he knew in April he wanted to get closer to home.
He also told me around May that his best guess that Maverick Rowan would end up at NC State, and this proved to be the case. But at the same time, and several times since, he's made the prediction that Gottfried would be canned at the end of next year at NC State. (And for what it's worth, he told me about Lavin one week before he was gone at St. John's -- his words: "I've known Steve Lavin for 25 years, and what I've learned about him is that eventually, he rubs everyone the wrong way!")
I'm not trying to be coy with my "source" here. And in the case with Gottfried, this is "his guess" and not inside info.
However, I'm confident in saying that he's a guy I know whose opinion I am comfortable sharing as a very good one.
DT ...... I was obviously kidding about the Jamie to NC State and Nostradamus comments and believe that you have a credible source that thinks Gottfried may get fired ...... although no one can really know until next season plays out.
However, if Gottfried and staff get canned after next season, and if our season and recruiting don't significantly improve in the meantime, then maybe Jamie should look at a couple of those NC State assistants.
No worries Goalie ... I knew exactly where you were coming from (and respected it appropriately).
I was simply trying to clarify my comments, especially since opinions about Gottfried seem to be a divisive thing here on the board from time to time. What I was trying to clarify is that what I was saying was the opinion of others (who I would judge as very credible), and not my own.
Gottfreid is controversial at NC State for letting the players run the program. Giving the players a lot of freedom on and off the court is one reason he recruits well. He also has a lot of roster turnover. Before this past season, his teams generally uderachieved relative to their talent. Thanks for the insight DT. What do they expect down there? They're nuts. They are relevant again thanks to him. Unless he is rubbing people the wrong way, or doing some things that is scaring a few people.

I don't buy Gottfried getting canned at NC State at all - at least not in the forseeable future.
He's only been there a short time- it looks like he's really building something there (compared to the success of their two former coaches).
He's obviously a great recruiter and most importantly..... is very close to their AD Yow.
Fwiw, I have a brother that is semi-close to the program at NC State (we both live here in NC - he in Raleigh)....his son was the valedictorian in electrical engineering there actually which doesn't mean anything regarding inside BB info (ok, I'm bragging on my nephew).
Anyway, my brother tells me that the fanbase and the administration are thrilled with Gottfried as their coach and are expecting great things from him very soon.
I asked him IF NC State didn't make the dance this year would Gottfried's seat be hot and he laughed and said zero way.
I hope they don't think they are so good that they can ignore volunteer assistant coach Ron Rowan when he tells them how to coach up his son.North Carolina State does have a very good coaching staff ..... their assistant coaches are experienced, accomplished, and excellent recruiters .... they seem to compliment the head coach well..... in 4 years at NC State, Gottfried has had his team in the NCAAT all 4 years, to the round of 32 once and twice to the Sweet 16 ...... seems to be a program on the rise.

Hmmm...Based on what? You would call someone else out if they put forth a statement without a scintilla of evidence. I know quite a few alumni of State and right now they are pretty damn happy. Unless Gottfried is looking to go I am not sure your statement holds much water.
