PAT NARDUZZI AGREES TO NEW CONTRACT AT PITT THROUGH 2021

PITTSBURGH—Following a debut campaign in which he led the program to its most successful regular season in six years, University of Pittsburgh head football coach Pat Narduzzi has been awarded a contract extension by Athletic Director Scott Barnes.

Two years will be added to Narduzzi's original five-year agreement, ensuring he will remain the Panthers' head coach through at least the 2021 season. Financial terms and other contractual details were not disclosed.

“Pat Narduzzi has adrenalized Pitt football on and off the field,” Barnes said. “We are proud of what our program has accomplished this season. Moreover, we're excited about what our student-athletes can continue to achieve—on the field, in the classroom and in the community—under Pat's long-term leadership.”

“I'm greatly appreciative and humbled by the support and faith that Scott Barnes and ChancellorPatrick Gallagher have shown me,” Narduzzi said. “The University of Pittsburgh is an incredible place with incredible people. My family and I plan to make Pittsburgh our home for a very long time and we're glad the leadership at Pitt feels the same way. It is an honor to serve as Pitt's head football coach and I'm continuously energized by what we can, and will, accomplish here.”

In Narduzzi's debut season, the Panthers have compiled an 8-4 record, their winningest regular season in six years. Pitt went 6-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, finishing as the runner-up in the Coastal Division.

Under Narduzzi's watch, Pitt became the first school to sweep each of the ACC rookie awards in the same season. Freshman strong safety Jordan Whitehead and redshirt frosh running back Qadree Ollison were named the league’s top newcomers for 2015.

The Panthers have accepted an invitation to play in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman in Annapolis, Md., where they will face the nationally ranked Navy Midshipmen on Dec. 28.The game will be nationally televised by ESPN and kick off at 2:30 p.m.

Good to hear, still have to laugh when I read ensuring he will remain coach through 2021 though.

What do you guys think his new salary and salary pool for the assistants are? I'm guessing Pat is now up to $3.0 mil/yr and the coordinators are now making between $750K to $1 mil/year.

Because they dont really give details...just take it as the salaries went up which is a good thing. It also is gonna help with recruiting. As it shows the job wont continue to be a revolving door. Now go land some 4's!!! H2P

Contracts mean little to nothing anymore, but at least Narduzzi knows he has 100% support from a solid chancellor and AD (I'm sure he already knew this before), along with the fan base. I'm proud he is our coach, I really think Pitt hit it out of the park (finally).

Hah, all the PSU are already trying to say contracts mean nothing.

Great extention, boy was I wrong, I thought we would wait to announce it.

Agree, the salaries are still exploding, including the ACC.

Yeah, everything Pitt does is wrong....so what.

I meant the shills and flamers coming on this board.

We should have at least gave Narduzzi the money that Wisky gave us for Chryst and then some. The salaries really escalated the past month in general, so I am guessing he has to be at around 3.5?

In the sense, they dont prevent someone from leaving, then yes, all coaching contacts mean "nothing." Any coach can leave at anytime. The extension is good news though. More important are the details that wont be announced like Narduzzi's salary, assistant salaries, and overall budget.

We can finally start selling coaching stability to recruits. Let the floodgates open!

I laughed at that too. Contracts mean nothing.
That's right, contracts mean absolutely nothing, look at Toad Graham, if HCPN is making 3 million and if within the next 6 yrs some school offers him 5 million, he could up and leave. Even by text messaging

If Narduzzi is 9-3 or better next season, he'll have to be making $5 million per year because that is what he will be offered from other schools. TV money has greatly increased coaching salaries. Pitt better start looking in all couch cushions because if Narduzzi is indeed a very good coach, its going to take a MINIMUM of $5 million long-term.

3 million is chump change , contract means nothing l, but glad they did this for the recruiting. He needs to be making about 5 a year to be with the big boys

Glad everyone is discussing dollar amounts and it would take if another school offered considering none of that info has been disclosed .... ??? Jesus already....btw does ANYONE believe any Pitt fan needs to be constantly reminded about coaching contracts?...seriously? Pitt fans know first hand more than anyone...no need to act like Penn State fans about this GOOD news..

After reading all of your prior posts, it doesn't appear that you are very happy about any good news concerning Pitt or the ACC. Why is that?

3m would be near 30 right now.
But double what Pitt paid PC. $1,578,757. (2.3 @Wisc).
Dantonio at 3.67 just extended last year.
Ok?

This is good for recruiting.

There he goes again. Had another dream that you thought was fact. If you really know everything buy your lottery tix.

Probably simply because he's likely from Pittsburgh. Where the only thing worse than dying, is being fooled. ;) Seriously, though, grew up in the 'Burgh, love the place generally, and great place to be from. But Pittsburghers would win the Negativity Heisman if there were such a thing. Would be a dynasty.

Nah, they'd get screwed and be runner up.

The only ones upset are the ones that are obviously flamers using fake accounts.

They should be worrying about Franklin getting the axe next year
If the nitters get trashed in their bowl and Sackenberg looks like a tackling dummy again the ham sandwich with headphones may be looking for a job sooner than later. That would be bad news for us since the nitters might get a real football coach.

They won't fire him for losing to Georgia.... even if it is a blowout and their 4th straight loss. As long as he keeps getting 7 or 8 win seasons, that's perfect for us. Good enough that they won't fire him (and, as you say, maybe get lucky and get a real coach), but bad enough that they never rise above 4th in the Big Ten East. They'll go 5-4 or 4-5 most years in the Big Ten as long as Harbaugh, DAntonio, and Meyer are around.

Good now I can relax since the ham sandwich with headphones ( Frankie football ) will return next season!

This is where you are wrong. 3 million keeps nobody from taking him, so the contract means nothing, and you know this as well. I am very happy with coach, I would like to see him like Jamie, top 20 of his profession with a nice large buyout. Pay his assistant coaches a nice salary, and let's keep moving forward.

Maybe you have me confused with someone else because I never said that 3 million, or any other amount, keeps someone from taking him? If/when a coach wants to leave then they will leave. Buy-outs don't stop others from offering, either.

My point was simply that you don't seem to be particularly happy with any good news regarding Pitt or the ACC. I was just curious, why?

Regardless, I feel very confident that we will "keep moving forward".

You guys should check Sam Werners tweets... Narduzzi is shredding all this gonna leave talk he is also pointing out the complete fabrication the Rutgers BS was....and other stuff as well...
Franklin on the other hand is destroying his own rep by lying to recruits and it seems HS coaches don't like it...I
