Nathan Davis

Yea and we would sell 146 more season tickets with him
Dear Stallings lover and Pitt hater. A new guy might not sell many tickets in his forst year but if he has some things Stallings doesn't have the fans will return eventiually. If he can Coach a team, if he can recruit a team, if he has personality to deal with the media things will improve. It doesn't take one of your cheating heroes like Pitino or Sampson.or Miller. But hey, you only desire Pitt to suck so keep up your ignorant anti_Pitt agenda

- Winner at 2 different schools
- Younger Guy
- Good Recruiter

Given the parallels to the desperation to be rid of Dixon, looks like we should be hearing from people who know Sean Miller’s wife’s cousin any week now about how badly he misses the East Coast.

We’ve gone from slagging off Andy Toole to saying “gee, he’d be an upgrade” about literally anybody with a pulse, and now we just need the fake Sean Miller rumors to get the boosters all loud and excited and supportive again and the cycle will be complete.

Please tell us all for the 100th time how lucky we were to hire Kevin Stallings.

We are incredibly lucky to have Stallings if we think Andy Toole and Nathan Davis are suitable alternatives.

Again, I’m not defending Ernie Kent or Travis Ford or Josh Pastner here.

There is absolutely no reason to keep Stallings. None. Ironically, Davis just beat Navy by 20 points. The same Navy team that beat Pitt by 9 points.

If the alternatives are Davis and Toole, that’s reason enough to keep him.

Or, just go hire a different retread. See if Fran McCaffery wants to come back closer to Philly or something.

Confused why you think this. To me, Toole and Davis versus Stallings are complete opposites.

You have no idea what Toole or Davis could be, and that's what makes them exciting hires that could bring some energy to the program.

Stallings is proven to be mediocre, and he's shown nothing so far here to indicate he can even be that here.

There’s more than enough data out there to show those guys will be lucky to last half as long as Stallings has at the P5 level.

Mystery does nothing to increase somebody’s chances for success or their appeal.

Making decisions because you believe you have a skill at picking the guy who will beat the odds is foolhardy.

It’s all luck, which is why non-elite P5 schools struggle to sustain success over the long haul.

Even if people say “but Howland”, he was placed here by adidas, who had a vested interest in seeing him succeed. Is Nike gonna do us a solid like that?

How exactly are they retreads?

A different retread than Stallings.

Bruce Weber or Fran McCaffery have a better chance to succeed here than Davis or Toole.

Davis and Toole have been at one Division 1 school. You are either misusing the word retread or else do not know what it means.

How are you not realizing what I am saying?

I took Nathan Davis Jazz 80 class at Pitt in 1974. Really good class along with Presidential Rhetoric

If Nathan Davis is the Coach, can we get a Jazz Rendition of the National Anthem?(or the Radiohead Song, 'The National Anthem').

Also, during his Team Lectures, will he say anything that might be on their Team Exam should be marked in their Written Notes with an 'X' and if it is really vital information on Game Planning and will mosdef be on the Exam, then mark your Notes with a 'Triple X'?

Now, if we can just dig up Walt Harper and bring him back to life, to join the Staff as an Assistant Coach.

On a serious note, I hope Nathan Davis has been enjoying his retirement as he deserves it after building an Epic Music & Jazz Program/School at The University of Pittsburgh.

I just shake my head at some of the names I see mentioned on this forum.

Go Big or Go Home!

It will never happen at PITT!

They'll spend a ton of $ getting rid of KS who PITT recently hired ( what a waste of $), PITT won't have the $ to GO BIG so they'll hire some no name average MAC level coach, skimp on assistant pay, as the leader of sports mediocracy just goes on and on!

No bigtime sports visionaries on the PITT leadership team. Never was and never will be because athletics are on the back burner.

The only way to break this cycle is to find a way to hire the best basketball coach willing to coach at PITT! The best one, not some average bargain coach, we just witnessed the results of a decision like that.

And I'm sure the loyal Nitter guys who are in executive positions on the PITT leadership team will help PITT move the basketball program forward???They're probably thinking how can we finally kill the PITT basketball program? Next up football? But we'll help with soccer and volleyball we want PITT to be really good in those sports.

Can't wait to be in Happy Valley with all our friends this fall and give them the good news!
How does something like happen at a U like PITT???

PITT should either get serious about sports or save the money and do something else!

"it's five o'clock somewhere"
Signed: Mr Buffett
Go PITT & CSU Rams!

Let's hire Ryan Gosling.
chicks love this dude, it would help with that demographic. we may win or lose but there wouldn't be a dry seat in the Pete. well I mean, besides the ones that the guys are sitting in.

Musselman, Hurley, Oats would be my top 3. Who do you want?

Maybe Hurley. And an absolute NO to Davis.

Everyone else who have been tossed around as candidates will not impact attendance or more importantly turn things around in a couple years. Another makeover is going to require a whole lot of patience . I've accepted the inevitable, I suggest you do as well.

winning will effect attendance, not who the new coach is. no one is going to start going to games now just because of who the name of the coach is. unless of course it's a very popular name which we know wont happen cause we cant pay that person.

I agree in principle with you but there are a few coaches out there that could create enough buzz to flip STH on the fence. No that any would consider us or visa versa.

So you don’t think there is anyone out there that is willing to take the job that can win more than 4 conference games in his first 2 years? That is the bar that has been set by Stallings.

More than 4 wins in year two with the prospect of another major rebuild? No.

I may be biased, since he is my neighbor, but I don't think he is there yet. But his teams are fun to watch!

I dunno... if I was Pitt AD I think I'd go w/ someone w/ a Philly background. Isn't there some Jay Wright assistant or something along those lines? Seems to me... if Pitt is going to do anything in bball they *have* to get back into the philly market.

Some of you guys act like building a basketball team is some huge undertaking. Well, watching Stallings bumble along I can't blame you. Bring in a coach who can actually recruit and coach and we could be back to the tourney in a couple years. I mean, Dixon took TCU, a perpetual floor mat, and has them in the tourney in year two. It's not as impossible as some of you guys think. Or you're just resigned to accept failure as the new normal. Either way, it isn't right.

Why are you so fixated on attendance? Just like football, winning takes care of attendance. You don't hire a coach based on how he can improve attendance, you hire one to win and build a program. Attendance is not something you can fix with phony bullshit. Only one thing improves attendance. Winning. If Bobby knight came to coach here and we won zero conference games, attendance would be exactly the same. Period.

It's like they believe Pitt just can never be good, so may was well focus on adding a few hundred butts in seats.

4 conference games in Two seasons combined is too unrealistic?

Reread the sentence. More than 4 wins in the new guy's second season.

So to win more than 4 games in 2019....................(More than last years tournament team)

The new guy must correctly identify the players worth keeping and actually keep them here. And coach them to where they are ACC caliber starters.

And recruit a lot of new talent that are significantly better than what we have.

And have that all in place a year from now.

No Luther or Frame in year two.

Yeah, I guess I can visualize that scenario but I would call it anything but realistic.
