Going for it on 4th and 1.... I like it.
Just don't run Gallman into the line two times like you did against Pitt at the end of the game. Be creative.
Play callI'm not sure what was worse the decision to go for it or the play call.
Very very poor
The correct play is to punt.
The best play call is to roll Watson out with run pass option after faking to gallman up middle.
Alabama playing might dirty thus far
When you have 4th and 0.5 yards at the other team's 41 and you want to win the championship, you go for it there and you show you're here to win it.
Going for it was the right move there... a 7-yard deep lateral pitch is a horrible play call.
I'm so sick of obvious targeting plays going uncalled..... and questionable ones being called.
The hit on Williams was direct helmet to helmet on a defenseless player who was already being tackled. It should have been 15 and an ejection.
The difference is Bama starting at their 41 or starting at their 20 (likely, because Clemson's punter is poor).Absolutely disagree.
You're playing a one dimensional offense that has struggled severely vs quality defenses. Why give them a short field. Getting a 1/2 yard probably isn't even a 50/50 bet there.
And the immediate aftermath showed that.

That 21 yard difference is worth the risk. A championship calibre team makes 4th and 1/2 yard 90% of the time. If they're not stupid and start the play 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage like they did.
Watson is 6'4". A QB sneak behind his giant center had a 95% chance of success.
So Alabama marched right down the field 59 yards... but you think they wouldn't have gone 80 on the drive? Not vs Alabama d.
0-0 right now or 7-0

That's quite an assumption.
Look at what play?Is it? What have they done before or since.
It was momentum changer and a bad call imho.
You can have the last word.
Welp look at that play.
Interesting data from ESPN Analytics' Twitter account:
"One of the biggest plays so far was Clemson's decision to go for it on 4th-and-1 early in the 1st quarter. Clemson was stopped and Alabama scored a few plays later. Was it the right call? According to ESPN Analytics data, if Clemson thought it could convert it about 36% of the time it was the right call. Clemson was 15-of-25 (60 percent) on fourth down, though those attempts didn't come against Alabama's defense."
I say that they make it much more than 36% of the time if they simple QB sneak it. Oh well, Dabo made the wrong call.
