Going for it on 4th and 1.... I like it.

Just don't run Gallman into the line two times like you did against Pitt at the end of the game. Be creative.

So the defender clearly put an intentional forearm to Watson's head well after the ball was out. How is that not targeting??

Lol...Well...

I don't like the call. Pin them within the one and try and force Hurts into a mistake.

So they did the pitch to Gallman... just like they did against Pitt.

Dumb, Dabo, dumb. If Pitt stopped it, you don't think Alabama would?

I'm not sure what was worse the decision to go for it or the play call.

Very very poor

The correct play call is to fake the pitch and let your best player bootleg for the first down.

That is something Canada would have done.......

The correct play is to punt.

The best play call is to roll Watson out with run pass option after faking to gallman up middle.

Hopefully Clemson holds onto the ball tonight.

I've never seen a team strip better then bam a.

Clemson has scored first in 13 of their previous 14 games. The only time they didn't score first?

Against Pitt.

When you have 4th and 0.5 yards at the other team's 41 and you want to win the championship, you go for it there and you show you're here to win it.

Going for it was the right move there... a 7-yard deep lateral pitch is a horrible play call.

I'm so sick of obvious targeting plays going uncalled..... and questionable ones being called.

The hit on Williams was direct helmet to helmet on a defenseless player who was already being tackled. It should have been 15 and an ejection.

Absolutely disagree.

You're playing a one dimensional offense that has struggled severely vs quality defenses. Why give them a short field. Getting a 1/2 yard probably isn't even a 50/50 bet there.

And the immediate aftermath showed that.

How the hell does the broadcast official call that anything other than targeting? What a joke.

Need a stop here.

The difference is Bama starting at their 41 or starting at their 20 (likely, because Clemson's punter is poor).

That 21 yard difference is worth the risk. A championship calibre team makes 4th and 1/2 yard 90% of the time. If they're not stupid and start the play 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage like they did.

Watson is 6'4". A QB sneak behind his giant center had a 95% chance of success.

Not vs Alabama d.

0-0 right now or 7-0

That's a big stop for the Clemson D after the fumble.

Now they need to get at least a couple first downs to get out of the hole.

Bama is very good, but they get the lucky bounces as well. For example, the 2 punts.

So Alabama marched right down the field 59 yards... but you think they wouldn't have gone 80 on the drive?

That's quite an assumption.

Is it? What have they done before or since.

It was momentum changer and a bad call imho.

You can have the last word.

Welp look at that play.

Still laughing about the Hochuli comment. My wife asked me if the referee was wearing a singlet. His hat is even too tight

The play Clemson just ran on 3rd and 1/2..... wouldve worked just as well on 4th and 1/2.

A 99 yard drive here would be sweet..... and let Alabama know they're in for a fight.

Dabo has to stop taking the ball out of his quarterback's hands. He says that Watson is the best player in the NCAA, but he won't let him show it.

Interesting data from ESPN Analytics' Twitter account:

"One of the biggest plays so far was Clemson's decision to go for it on 4th-and-1 early in the 1st quarter. Clemson was stopped and Alabama scored a few plays later. Was it the right call? According to ESPN Analytics data, if Clemson thought it could convert it about 36% of the time it was the right call. Clemson was 15-of-25 (60 percent) on fourth down, though those attempts didn't come against Alabama's defense."

I say that they make it much more than 36% of the time if they simple QB sneak it. Oh well, Dabo made the wrong call.

Clemson isn't doing anything to move the 9 men off the line of scrimmage on offense. Use Mike Williams and Renfro to stretch the field. Leggett really needs to be used as well.

Alabama completely dominating the LOS. Way too much talent for Clemson to handle.

I guess that's the point I don't think they get that 36% of the time.

They have had numerous 2, 3rd, And 4th and 1 plays. At least 5 and they've converted one.
