I find it much more convoluted to find the Field House Forum than previously and it would be ideal to have a link to the Field House directly in the Forums tab. This has been a somewhat disappointing year to date but agree growth will take time. Being in the #1 state for wrestling, it is frustrating to see the more highly touted state wrestlers not so much going to Big 10 schools but rather other ACC schools. I found this list courtesy of the West York Wrestling Alumni Association and thought you may find it interesting (all National Champions from Pennsylvania). The 1950's were our pinnacle and hopefully we will approach in the not to distant future.

I made my post (in another thread) before reading ^^^yours^^^. Had I read ours first, I would’ve put my post into this thread....

Crazy to see how dominant the WPIAL has been. They produced an NCAA champ every year from 1996-2009 except for just 2 years. Have another steak going from 2016 on which looks like it will continue at least for the next 2 years.

Spencer Lee is about as sure a thing to win the 125 pound title this year as there has been. He hadn’t given up a point all year going into this weekend and has six 1st period pins.

Spencer has only wrestled 4 times this season. Iowa has not been competing last couple weeks because of covid issues. Hopefully they are back in time for big tens next week

Lee actually has wrestled less than 4 periods, since all 4 matches ended in 1st period pins. However, I still think he is the biggest lock in the tournament.

The one caveat for him other than not having wrestled for a month is that 125 is for the Big Ten a weak weight class this year. And, for whatever reason, Lee didn’t wrestle in the dual against Schroeder of Purdue, who probably is the second best in the conference at 125.

One thing I noticed in watching Iowa’s dual meets with Young and Marinelli out is that they don’t appear to have anywhere near the young talent that PSU has. Since 2018, PSU has lost Nolf, Taylor, Joseph, Hall, Nickal and Ruth at 157 through 197 (and those are just the NCAA champions at those weights) and yet they have thrown out three freshmen this year who look like potentially great wrestlers. After forfeiting three matches at 125, PSU now has Robert Howard from Blair Academy, who also looks good. The two wrestlers Iowa put out there to replace Young and Marinelli plus young Brands, who apparently is in the regular lineup, to my eye aren’t anywhere near the quality of PSU’s frosh. Same for the 125 pounder who wrestled against Purdue.

,Iowa’s best young wrestlers are Kennedy and Brands. Kennedy is behind Marinelli and Brands is behind Kemerer. Brands is only a 165/174 pounder who is wrestling up at 184. Kennedy is an elite wrestler while Brands could be very good at the correct weight. Almost their whole team has at least 2 more years of eligibility. Not Kemerer and Eierman with one more year.

I'm not up on my history as some of you, but when I was at NA, believe me I heard about the teams in the late 80s/early 90s constantly. Before my growth spurt and subsequent move to hoops, I was down the 113/120/126 arena and dudes like the Moores were held as Gods. Weird not to see Brinzer or Ty on there, but I guess they both peaked in HS.
