The best match of the weekend, Man City vs Chelsea, is on the Peacock Channel, at 7:30 am. That is 4:30 am for me on the West Coast.

On the cable channel that most people have, USA Network, at 10:30 am, is Newcastle United vs. Watford, which might be better than an Ambien if you need something to put you to sleep.

Finally, at 12:30 pm, on the NBC Network, Aston Villa vs Man U. Not a terrible matchup, especially with Villa at home, but not Man City vs Chelsea by any means.

Sunday, they keep it up with the North London Derby, Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal on Peacock. They have Liverpool at home to Brentford on USA, and for me it’s always nice to see Liverpool, but nowhere near as big a match as the North London Derby. That’s one I have always tried to watch.

I have Peacock but also the slowest internet connection in the world, so if I wake up at 4:30 to watch the big match, with all of the buffering it likely will be over at Noon for me.

I understand they are trying to promote Peacock, but if they were smart they would be promoting soccer and Peacock could ride the wave.

I don't like how "niche" they are making Euro soccer in this country. Heck, when I was a kid, I could come home from school and flip on Champions League on ESPN. Decades later and with soccer seemingly 10 times more popular, I need a paid streaming service.

CL is on Paramount+
EPL is on Peacock ans USA (which Joe Blow American has no idea has sports)
Bundesliga and La Liga on ESPN+
Serie A on Paramount+

It seems like the sports channels don't televise live sports anymore. Its just football replays and sports talk shows all day until 7PM.

Disappointing to see the weekends biggest matchup on Peacock. Pep vs tuchel has become a real great match up.

for you Mike, being more of a LaLiga fan, I know New Castle vs Watford is a snooze fest…but it will be an interesting watch because it’s a relegation battle and if watford can put three more points between them and the richest club in football, then I’m all for it!

As far as the city vs Chelsea match…hopefully chelsea find a way to get 3pts, otherwise the title race is over. Tuchel did beat Pep 3 times in a row before City beat chelsea earlier this year so I think Chelsea will make it interesting. Tuchel also completely rested pulisic and mount this week. So I’m hoping for those two up front with Lukaku, but my guess is those two with Havertz. Kante and Kovacic in the midfield which I love.

Tuchel has been tinkering with a 4-2-2-2. So lord knows what he will conjure up tomorrow.

I get it. But I don’t care if it’s a niche. I just want access and there’s never been more. Of course, it’s all streaming as you said but I can deal with it.

At some level though NBC doesn't have any choice. I mean sure, they can decide which games to put on Peacock. But in the 10 AM eastern time slot besides Newcastle v Watford the other two choices are Norwich v Everton and Wolverhampton v Southampton. Would any of those other two be a better choice? And of course the 12:30 game is the one and only game being played in that time slot (like it is every week), so there really isn't any choice there at all. There's one game being played. They are showing it. What else could they do, other than not show any game?

Again on Sunday, sure, they decided to put the Tottenhgam v Arsenal game on Peacock. But again, it's in a different time slot than the Liverpool v Brentford game. The other choice for that time slot is West Ham v Leeds. And while West Ham v Leeds might actually be the better (or certainly more competitive) game, I think we all know why they picked the one that they did for USA.

As I said before, they pissed off the Premier League people with their Peacock strategy last season, and they had been doing at least a better job putting the better games on USA/NBCSN this year. But that surely isn't the case this weekend. And I'll bet they've pissed off the people running the Premier League again.

Good points. And I suppose casual fans aren’t going to miss a 7:30am game, so NBC might as well put it on Peacock to draw subscriptions from the serious fans.

Yea there's a ton of access but there's also a ton of access to Cricket and Rugby. Not sure putting all this stuff on streaming services helps the sport. I saw ESPN run a promo for a friggin Columbus Blue Jackets game during the CFP NC and then Herbie was like "that's my team" or something.

Man. So I was right about pulisic and Lukaku in the attack. But I thought mount would be in there as well and he’s not. His form hasn’t been good, so maybe even the golden boy isn’t immune to getting sat down. Kante and kovacic in the midfield is what I hoped and expected. But the back line is wretched. Pep’s press should have a field day. And chelsea has no other backs on the bench. Covid and injuries have not been kind.

Chelsea were a Kepa hesitation from getting 1 point. If he doesn't flinch to his right, I think he gets a paw on that DeBruyne goal.

Newcastle v Watford will be interesting. Newcastle bring in Kieran Trippier and Chrissy Wood who should feature today. Wood was a typical Sean Dyche/Burnley sniper. Always in the right spot for the good, hard working goal. It'll be fun to see how much more Newcastle buy the rest of the month.

Yeah but chelsea needed 3. And today was a fair result. City were too good closing time and space for chelsea and then at other times chelsea weren’t good when they did have time and space. It’s pretty apparent that with both starting wing backs out for the season this team isn’t a championship team. And it’s not shocking they lost their grip on first place when Chillwell and James went down.

today the only bright spot was rudiger. And they may piss around and lose him this summer.

Turns out that it doesn't matter what channel they planned on showing the Tottenham - Arsenal game on, because the game has been covided.

That's one game that they shouldn't have allowed Arsenal a postponement. It appears that they only have one player out with covid, but they have four players at the African Cup of Nations, three players injured and one out on a red card. The fact that they don't have adequate replacements for their AFCON players and their injured/red carded players is their fault, not covid's fault. Play a couple of your U23s if you have to.

Tottenham just put out a statement essentially hammering the PL for allowing the game to be cancelled with Arsenal only having one covid case.

BTW, in addition to the people missing for things that don't have anything to do with covid, Arsenal also sent two players out on loan this week. How can they argue that they don't have enough players if they willingly just sent two of them to other teams assumedly so they can get to play games?

MU decided to blow a two goal lead and allow AVL to manhandle them in the second half. Good pickup to get Coutinho for AVL.

The league has been so inconsistent on this and it’s not right. I think the Arsenal 23’s played yesterday though. But your point is a good one.

like I said here recently, I saw Chelsea vs Everton in December. I was thrilled the game was not canceled because I had tickets. But it really should have been. Chelsea had 4 positive covids. Or maybe it was 6? Plus they had injuries. The roster was depleted. But Everton was too and Everton had a bunch of 23’s in their lineup.

and Liverpool should have been made to play their Moose Cup 1st leg match last week. Then they had those 8 “false positives”. Yeah ok.

If you wanted to see a good game the West Ham v Leeds game certainly would have been a much better choice than Liverpool v Brentford. As was surely expected, even by the people who decided to show the Liverpool game.

Chelsea/Tottenham are on Peacock Sunday followed by Men In Blazers with guest Mark Cuban. I had no idea Cuban was a soccer fan. For years I have said he should bring an MLS franchise to Pittsburgh and build a joint Pitt/MLS stadium but I didn't know he was a soccer guy. Teel has an MLS team. Why not Cuban?
