Without a doubt, toughest loss of the season. Really feel for the kids. After another rough start, they played really well for about 25 minutes. They were actually pushing the tempo and playing loose. They played well enough to win for a good portion of the game, but it just fell apart. Make one of those threes inside of 10 minutes and they probably win the game.
The toughest part was that they actually had Yurtseven in foul trouble. I thought they had a legit chance if that happened. They actually put hm back into the game with and that was it. Couldn't draw another foul on him. The zone did neutralize him and I thought it was a good call. If they played man and he didn't commit early fouls, he probably would have went for about 30 and 20. There is just nothing at all inside.
These kids play hard and have not quit at all. There was so much energy and fun during the middle part of the game. It looked like they finally started to believe.
A lot of it had to do with NC State's play I thought. The Wolfpack have a lot of athleticism and Yurtseven is good, but they are very erratic. Last night, they did not play well outside of the opening and closing stretch. That is one that Pitt couldn't let slip.
You can see in the postgame press conference that Stallings is beaten down. His response to the Wilson-Frame question just shows that he is fatigued. There is no other possible explanation for the response. He could have said literally anything else other than that.
Some of the shots at the end of the game were poor in my opinion. Not sure how Kene gets to take a contested three in that situation. Now I know that wasn't the play called, but you would think some timeouts in those situations would help this team. I understand letting players play and stay in rhythm, but this team needs walked through every possible situation.
This team just cannot catch a break. Jared all of a sudden plays how you expect, but Parker can't throw it into the ocean. He has been the best and most consistent scorer in league play.
The way I see it now, there looks to be two games where you could imagine a possible scenario that Pitt pulls one out. I think they have a chance Saturday, and then at home against Wake. This conference is just brutal. The difference in level of athlete right now in the ACC is just astonishing.
I saw the video of Marcus Carr getting shots up after the game. No matter what you think, I believe we can all agree that this is very tough to watch because of the kids. This game is fun, and the pressure will build with each loss. We are at the point where each game becomes tougher and tougher to win because of it.
I have a feeling that they may come out on Saturday and win the game. This group seems to be resilient if nothing else. Surprisingly, I don't think the confidence is shot yet and they have responded before. With this being the first close game and the manner in which they lost it, it could go the other way around. Will it give them confidence or will it linger? Would love to see them come out and play with determination on Saturday because the next 3 games are very ugly.
