CBS does a 30 minute show on 10 or so top NCAA coaches that they air on regular CBS and CBS Sports Network. They re-run it all the time. If you get a chance, check the Sean Miller episode out. Its really really good.
For some reason, I think Miller is almost viewed as a "villain" by some Pitt basketball fans, mostly I guess, because of the way he left but many of those same fans blame our administration at that time of ruining Pitt sports..............so wasn't Miller right to spot a bad situation and bad management?
Here's what I know about Miller. He's one of Pitt's all-time best players and one of the best players in WPIAL history. He's also on track to be a possible Hall of Fame head coach. True, he hasn't been to the Final Four yet and has choked in the NCAA Tournament but the guy is still a really good coach and recruiter. But, since he's not leading Pitt, Pitt fans don't care.
I don't get to watch a lot of Arizona, but in March, they become my 2nd favorite team. I remember Miller's time at Pitt fondly and loved the way he played. By no means I am ever suggesting that Dixon would or should be fired here because that would be absolutely nuts at this point but if the situation ever arose where we were looking for a head coach, a blank check should be mailed to Tucson and I think Miller would strongly consider it. On the show, he noted that his wife was his high school sweetheart and also went to Pitt. He said he was concerned about the move out west and it was tough adjustment at first because they were used to the 4 seasons, etc. Of course, now he says they love it and could never shovel snow again (but what else is he going to say). Just saying, Arizona and southern Arizona specifically is a different country. Its a totally different culture. He may love it. He may not. Personally, I could never live in a place like that. Say what you want about Pittsburgh, there's a lot of places I'd rather live but Arizona is not one of them and yes I've been there........in the winter when it was 75-80 degrees and I was swimming in the hotel pool.
Final points:
Root for Arizona. Coached by a true Pitt guy and their PG is a local WPIAL legend.
Don't say Miller would never coach Pitt. True, he may not, but I believe its possible with someone like Gallagher if he were still here at that time.
