I was listening to the radio and they mentioned that the Riverhounds have a scrimmage coming up against Pitt. I know NCAA rules for spring football won't let teams play against other NCAA football teams. Is soccer subject to the same rules? Does soccer get around those rules by playing a pro team? Could Pitt football play like the Steelers practice squad for a spring game? That'd be way more interesting than an intrasquad scrimmage.

Not sure on the rules, but I don't think it would be interesting at all to play the Steeler scrubs. I go to the spring game to see kids who could be contributors to Pitt in the fall. I could care less to see how they do against Sklyar Thompson for the Steelers.

I don't know anything about this, in particular. VB plays a three game spring schedule against other schools. I think football has some of their own specific rules but if anything, the trend seems to be going away from spring games because of transfer portal poaching.

Most NCAA sports allow these off-season exhibition games. For soccer, I think they get 5 games in the Spring. They play the Riverhounds every year. I have been saying for years that eventually you will see like a Pitt vs PSU game or OSU vs ND game replace the Spring Games.

Why the heck would the Spring Game be replaced by games of that caliber? I don't see it. If anything, I could see them just doing away with them altogether and making them into more of a meet and greet format. After all, the Spring Game is about the most meaningless thing in all of sports. 10+ guys won't be on the roster after the game; 20+ guys haven't gotten to campus yet; 30+ guys just got there five minutes ago... and on top of all that, it's over four months before the season begins. It's just dumb. Wouldn't mind seeing it be FBS vs FCS and them doing away with that during the regular season, though.

Theoretically, could the PITT football team decide as individuals to sign a contract to play against a USFL team if they did not affiliate with the University? In this case, everyone would know it is PITT but they would change their names to the Pittsburgh Pamfers.
