"Most notably, the committee is set to look into expanding the standard regular season schedule to 14 weeks. This move is being examined as a result of previous changes that eliminated two-a-days for programs across college football and the subsequent need for a host of pre-season waivers allowing teams to start fall camp earlier than normal. According to the association’s release on the matter, administrators would prefer to keep the standard early August start date for camp and move to a 14-week slate that would not result in the need for waivers to start early."

"Teams normally play a 13-week season with one bye weekend but the calendar does provide a few opportunities every once in a while to play a 14-week season when there is an extra Saturday baked into the standard Labor Day through Thanksgiving run. The move to 14-weeks would probably get a big thumbs up from coaches with the inclusion of an extra bye week for most."

This makes a ton of sense as there is too much time between the end of the season and the major bowls. Actually too much time between the end of the season and the minor bowls, too.

Fun Fact: The reason the bowl games were originally scheduled so late after Thanksgiving is because teams from the east coast had to travel by train to get across the country.

There's no reason other than tradition for the long layoff between the end of the regular season and bowl season now.

The Smart and Best thing to do, the Recruits and Players need to develop their bodies, protected and rested and giving an extra two weeks to heal and prepare is good for all Rosters and Teams.

Excellent point, the same thing for Heisman Voting, no more weeks and mailed in Ballots, all can be done by Emails in One Day and after the Entire Season is over after the NCS Game and can be Announced then or after that Game!

Alternately, players could be paid and the charade of the "student-athlete" dropped.

This is why I support a minor league for football and basketball just like the MLB and NHL. Both the NFL and NBA can find ways to finance a minor league.

If pay the players happens it will be the end of college revenue producing sports as its know today.
You support paying players lots of people don't and would drop out of the fan and donation base.

Many D1 U's who don't make money, breakeven, or lose a small amount on football and basketball and would either drop the sports or move to a level where players aren't paid. Many U's who don't make money on football are looking for a convienent excuse to drop football.

Players are already paid via schlorships they receive!
Without the sport and the schlorship many of those players wouldn't have the opportunity of a college education!

In addition there's a complex business and legal argument as to why U's dont want to pay players and make them employees or 3rd party contractors of the U which would be the case.

But a guy with the handle "Ski" probably isnt capable of thinking something like this through.
Another "snowflake" emotional lets make it fair ( Buffett banned word) reaction. LOL!
