A coworker of mine is retiring and moving and gave me an autographed Pitt basketball from sometime in the mid- 80s [he thinks], since he knew I was a big Pitt fan and alum. It was the old colors (blue and yellow) rubber full size ball that said "Pitt Panthers Basketball Camp". Signed by the likes of Charles Smith, Jerome Lane, D. Gore, Curtis Aiken and an old assistant coach John Calipari. There is also a name I could not make out--Michael ---something (Goodson maybe?). Here are links to four pics that show the ball in its entirety. Could anyone tell me when they think this ball was from and who the signature that I could not make out is from? I am guessing the ball is from sometime between 85-87 to have all those players on the team, and Calipari as an assistant.

Mike Goodson (or Michael in this signature) was #11, so that is him for sure.

Also, this ball would be from the 86-87 team. Calipari was an assistant under Evans and this was Evans' first year. The following year, 87-88, Aiken and Goodson were gone.

For what it's worth, the starting five were Smith-Lane-Gore-Aiken-Goodson. Off the bench was Tico Cooper, Rod Brookin, walk-on Pat Cavanaugh. Steve Maslek and walk-on Scott Columbo were also on the roster. Ed Luther was also a walk-on for the early part of the season and John Rasp and Bill Osborn walked on after football season has ended.

Thanks for the details on this! I graduated Pitt in 2000, so this was a little before any recollection I had of Pitt. I researched online some and Charles Smith's and Jerome Lane's signatures certainly changed over the years of signing autographs. It is now in a Lucite cube on my mantle in the mancave so it is definitely a nice addition to the other memorabilia.
