Nelly _I was wrong

He’s not trying to do too much. When they move the ball around they get open shots. He’s been making them because he’s not forcing them.

When he got a T in the first minute of the first game I saw a guy who I was worried would be too undisciplined. But I've noticed when he gets mad at a ref now, he complains more jokingly (it's nice to sit close to the floor.) His shooting is exceptional and he's seeming to get a little better at driving after being run off the three point line even if he turns it over when he spins or gets double teamed.

Start my own thread to say that Nelly has finally seemed settled in and his play has been very good the last 7 games or so .

I ragged on him for seeming overwhelmed - but im
Thrilled he’s proving me wrong .

I’ll own my bad hot takes early on

I'll put myself on the same list. My bad. It's been really nice to see his confidence grow.

As his play has improved so has Pitts , and there’s no denying that , let’s hope this continues as the competition heats up .

He was overwhelmed. But it wasn’t because he couldn’t play at this level. It was because he wants so badly to turn this around for Pitt. This is where he always wanted to play. This is the team he first followed when he was young and when we were very good. He remembers what the Pete was like when we didn’t lose at home. That is what he is trying to bring back. Sometimes you try too hard for the things most important to you.

Exactly who was Pitt recruiting as he came out of HS. I know I’m inviting our pal from dahn the river into this but he kinda always played like this since……

I was told Brandin Knight liked him and Nelly looked up to him. Dixon didn’t think Nelly was big/good enough to play at this level. That came from someone at LP. No idea if Stallings even knows where Midland is located.

Ragging on players is uncalled for. They're kids. Are John Hugley and Nate Santos nearly unplayable right now? Yes. But we shouldn't be hammering these kids. They chose to join our university. The least we can do is not trash them.

Especially someone like Nate, who is here giving his best. John's a bit more frustrating when it looks sometimes like his heart isn't in it either. But yes, we should always support the players.

Nate is giving effort - so that’s the difference
If he could actually make some shots he’d be a good player .

You weren’t wrong. You just had a knee jerk opinion based on a very small sample size. Wouldn’t be the first time it happened on these boards. Let’s hope he does this in league play where it matters most.
