but Barnes and the GMan make smiley and Nordy look brilliant.

Also for those saying this was a safe hire I say it's the exact opposite. This is an incredibly risky hire. They are going all in hoping a change of scenery will magically turn this guy into a good coach. If this works they will look like geniuses

When it fails they will look even worse than they do today

There is no middle ground here. Barnes is betting his career on stallings this is so SP like in that he's trying to show he's smarter than everyone else

"If this works..." and "When it fails..." Wow. You got the typical Pitt fan thing going there big time.

sorry, no way this is worse than firing wanny, hiring haygood and then hiring fraud. just no way. people must have short memories because that was the worst performance of any athletic department i've ever seen.

At least Haywood did us a favor and got himself fired. Wish Stallings would do that.

Graham was a bust here, but is a successful college football coach, and pretty clearly better than Chryst who replaced him.

what's relevant is that he was a bust here and it was his own fault that he was and his own fault in the way he left.

he walked into an ASU program with a higher talent level than pitt had and in a better situation in general and he still underachieves out there (in my opinion).

his being decent at ASU has no relevance on how awful his hiring was for pitt. his ASU performance has no bearing on the horrible incompetence of Smiley for that entire period. neither graham nor mike should ever have been hired.

chryst walked into a worse situation at pitt than graham did and now just like graham when he went to a school with more talent than pitt had and a better situation in general, he also produced better results than he did at pitt.

Disagree on Haywood. The guy was an unknown, Stallings isn't. His success at Vandy is no better than Dixon's and he has a really bad rep. This hire was way worse.

Stallings does not have a bad reputation. Pitt tampered on Jeter and he responded the way you would expect Pitt to have done. The Baldwin thing was definitely a bad judgment but he let it go immediately. Show me where he has a bad rep.

i thought his hire screamed small time

then he went and choked his wife or hit her or grabbed her up or whatever it was

stallings screams small time too he just has a longer record of being small time than mike did

My point was Pederson was guilty of incomplete vetting (although Haywood had no criminal past). Barnes can't hide behind that - Stallings career, missteps, lack of NCAAT tournament success, etc. is all out there for anyone to see.
