New baseball hire

Seems like a really solid hire. Getting a ton of good reviews so Lyke seems to have done a really good job here.

For his sake, I hope the Pitt admin makes the necessary investment that is needed if the expectations are going to be raised.

Someone with solid connections to the college baseball rankings called out this as a very solid hire and Bell took the position that Lyke apparently has financially committed additional resources to advance men's baseball status at Pitt. Apparently there were terms in the agreement that really will advance the program to be further competitive.

If you pay, you can hire good coaches. We’re also going to make a substantial investment in baseball.

Press conference is Friday.

This I applaud. I've been saying this makes sense for years.

But Pitt is still not an easy job. This will be interesting to watch.

Homerun hire but inside the park homerun. Bell is an outstanding hire and is going to do well here but before you know it, he will have head coaching experience on his resume with some success, and he will be gone. #realitysucks

You can't worry about losing people due to their success. You have to hire as good of people as possible.

Never understood this line of thinking. If he is successful here and wins and that results in him leaving for a better job then so be it. At least he would have won here.

Pitt is surely still not an easy job, but I'm not hoping for conference championships. Hopefully we can improve to the point where we're in the top half of the league most years. If you can get there, you're going to have a change at a regional most of the time because this is a 7-10 bid league.

We need to be the best program in the Northeast and go from there.

What is the line of thinking? just stating the reality of the situation. I agree 100% with you and Crazy Paco. If he is successful, the job will be a much better job when he leaves even if his stint is a short one.

The line of thinking that the hire is not as good because they might leave in a few years after being successful or really even worrying about that at all at this point.

Sorry it's a message board - sometimes we people will discuss (and worry) about things you don't agree with - hope that's ok.

Ok so I gave my opinion on a message board just like you did right? You might want to take your own advice.

Not sure why you are so defensive. Not trying to argue at all. Just saying I don't understand why so many people focus on what a coach might do years down the road.

No reason to be so defensive.

You might want to take your own advice. You quoted my post to question/criticize my opinion lol - hate to interject the facts into your routine. in

you want another joe jordano who no one would ever interview? or the list of drubs we've had in olympic sports pretty much forever?

Nah, I don't need to take that advice. I am not the one being so defensive when another poster gave an opinion on something they disagreed with.

You brought up how he will leave once he gets some experience and I simply gave my opinion that i did not understand why so many worried about that.

This hire wont get the juices flowing with Pitt fans the way Jeff Capel has, but

I find this to be very exciting for pitt athletics

The idea tbat Pitt baseball....essentially a club sport 30 years ago.....can hire a guy who played and coached at the CWS....coming from a true baseball power is remarkable.

Heather means business...and it makes me want to open my wallet a little more.....
