Author is a PSU guy all the way...

Dr. Ronald A. Smith is a noted sport historian and Professor Emeritus at Penn State University. He grew up on a dairy farm in Southern Wisconsin and attended Northwestern University majoring in history and participating on the baseball and basketball teams.

He then played minor league baseball with the Chicago White Sox. Following his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin, he spent 28 years at Penn State teaching sport history and researching intercollegiate athletics.

The Paterno Legacy

Joe Paterno's legacy isn't his won-lost record at Penn State. His legacy is himself. His impact on his players. His integrity. His instinct. His guts to do the right thing. In The Paterno Legacy you'll learn how his sense of self was formed from an early age and how he has carried himself over the years, giving Nittany Lions fans everywhere pride.

similar to pitt fans wanting to string up Ron Cook

Funny you put it that way since your Good Ole' Ron voted for Jason White over Larry Fitzgerald as the best football player in the nation...not as serious as a lynching but very much inspired by a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.

Love the reaction from BWI. That site provides great comedy. 90% of the posts are related to the Sandusky scandal. THese bozo's are so dumb that they don't realize that their very own actions to "find the truth" prolong the process of allowing the program to move beyond the Scandal and the stain on JVP's image to fade

Yeah, that has relevance to this thread. Let it go for chrissakes.

How can that be? I got banned not for typing his name, but merely for referring to the position he formerly held there..

There's gotta be some law designed to prevent maniacs from posting phone numbers with the intent of course being harassment ... What a bunch of deluded jack wagons

Bought a copy within 2 minutes of clicking on this thread. I'm surprised Penn State Press didn't print it. The guy had to go to the university of Illinois? I have a feeling his emeritus status may be at risk.

I have a feeling that his emeritus status might be the least of his worries when dealing with the Children of the Corn.

Similar in what way? Pitt fans bitch about Cook because he is a smart ass snark.

The situation in Creepy Valley is a tad different. This is about a guy writing a book exposing what they don't want exposed and getting serious threats over it.

Not even close.

This book was published in 2000. That's 2 years after Sandusky was accused for the first time. He was walking the campus boy hunting at the same time praises of Joepa's legacy was being put on display in the book.

"His guts to do the right thing."

The author had best going into hiding like Salman Rushdie. I am sure he will the target of threats just like Sara Ganim was for exposing the truth. BWI had a thread on the board a few weeks ago ranting and raving that the author was full of **** and was just jealous of Paterno.

The preview on Amazon really gets to the heart of the PSU program and Paterno.

"In Wounded Lions , acclaimed sport historian and longtime Penn State professor Ronald A. Smith draws from university archives to answer the How? and Why? at the heart of the scandal. The Sandusky case was far from the first example of illegal behavior related to the football program--or the university's attempts to suppress news of it. As Smith shows, decades of infighting among administrators, alumni, trustees, faculty, and coaches established policies intended to protect the university, and the football team considered synonymous with its name, at all costs. If the habits predated Paterno, they also became sanctified during his tenure

"Smith names names to show how abuses of power warped the "Penn State Way" even with hires like women's basketball coach Rene Portland, who allegedly practiced sexual bias against players for decades. Smith also details a system that concealed Sandusky's horrific acts just as deftly as it whitewashed years of rules violations, coaching malfeasance, and player crime while Paterno set records and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for the university."

This is why the truth may never fully come out. Anytime someone says anything about it, they get harassed and probably receive death threats. The funniest part though is these deranged Nitters don't even realize that even if they call this guy, he will just laugh in their faces and hang up.

Makes me wonder, they bitch and moan about ESPN, the NCAA, and everyone else they can think of ruining Penn State. They harass anyone who tries to speak the truth. Do you think any of them called Sandusky himself to harass him and tell him he was the one who ruined Penn State?

The joebots scare me and this author should consider her own safety. One of three stooges will spill their guts to try to save their soul. They all knew.

Well at least the Nitters took some action. I don't give them credit for much but they are fighting back.
PITT fans and PITT itself doesn't fight back. They just get steamrolled by the low level Pittsburgh sports media. A lot of you hear stuff on the radio, read negative online/ print media stories about PITT sports that you object but continue to support those same media outlets and never contact their sponsors.
Nothing will change unless you do something about it!

I am willing to bet seeing how crazy some of these PoSU fans are that they threaten this persons life. And you KNOW that will happen with these lunatics. I seriously doubt any Pitt fans have or would do that with Cook.

It seems to me that Pitt and its fans allow people their constitutional rights. That doesn't see the case with the joebots and their cult.

And yet somehow it is only Pitt fans that have an issue with them. The rest of America is fine with them.

Yeah well, some Pitt fans think discussing a loss by the Pittsburgh media is being biased and unfair. In other words, fans are stupid.

author had to know what feathers would be ruffled. I'm sure he has considered the backlash. Credit to him for facing the mob and going forward with the book.

Spot on….the author had to know that the people most likely to buy this book would be invested in Penn St or in the Psychology field and if he did not side with Penn St most of these books will sit in a box in his basement. Takes guts to stand up for what is right!

Discussing a teams performance is fair game -facts are facts!
My point is when the local media should be "punished" when they completely ignore PITT sports over and over again and talk up the Nitters or other teams for no good reason. Or when something good happens at PITT and they downplay the news or don't report on it at all.
The media where we live headlines good stuff about the Nitters week in and week out despite their poor coaching and team performance. There's always a positive headline and they burry the bad stuff deep in the sports section because the media outlets know what the result of bad Nitter press will be.
The Nitter media outlets know their role! fyi it does help Nitter recruiting!
