Pitt has recently been interested in Sean McNeil, a 6-foot-4 freshman guard who leads the nation (NJCAA Division II) in scoring with a 30.0 points per game average.

Per article in Dayton Daily News, over seven dozen schools have come to Sinclair games or practices or called McNeil.

Pitt called Price Thursday morning. Others include TCU, Texas, WVA

Yeah well it's nice we are looking for a shooter like this.

JUCO D2 is real bad though. Those are like WCCC, the PSU 2 year schools, etc. The competition level would be similar to Trees Hall. In contrast, Troy Simons averaged a similar total in perhaps the best D1 JUCO league in the country (JWF also played in it).

I also remember LeMar Castille from Brashear lighting up D2 JUCO at CCBC ages ago. He attained legendary status for playing in the Green Tree league with a house arrest ankle bracelet.

Yeah but he shoots free throws at a 90% rate. Lol.
His volume of 3s and foul shots tells me he can shoot no matter who he is playing against.
And that's what this seems to be about.

Want to see us recruiting bigs and a point (unless we will be giving out 8 scholarships this season.

If you can shoot you can shoot. Pitt missed 18 freaking free throws the other night. We need a shooter just as bad as another big. My question is he is listed as a freshman so is he a redshirt freshman? You have to earn a 2 year degree to go from JUCO to D1 last I checked.

I agree that shooting translates but he is only shooting 41.4% from 3. That is a good percentage but can he do anything else because 41% isnt good enough for a guy who cant do anything else. Like Micah Mason couldnt do anything but shoot but he was the 4th best of all time so you have to get a guy like that on the court. Parker Stewart shot 39% but thats after starting the year 3/17 and he was a very good rebounder.

BTW, I hope you all know I got some shade thrown my way for posting that Pitt should go after the top big guy in NCAA D2 Micah Till from Slippery Rock. He is putting in work at a much higher level than JUCO D2 and would only tie up a ship for 1 year.

You're assuming he gets fouled the same rate the players who did get fouled got fouled. I doubt a guy who is only a great outside shooter and nothing else gets fouled that often.

Put that guy in at the end of games...... but that only works if you're winning.
I truly think Pitt is inquiring about alot of players and this is just one we are hearing about.

What the name of the kid who Stallings was recruiting from a prep or JUCO, played HS ball in Pittsburgh, was a guard who was putting up crazy numbers, and where did he end up going?

I referenced him above. Troy Simons had an OK season at UNM but was in and out of the coach's doghouse and transferred to Kent State where he will play next season.

I'm all for this! '20 get the scholarship back, since that should be Capel's biggest targets yet. Would probably think too N'Dir either doesn't get a 6th year or he decides to leave Pitt, even if he got one. Duncan Robinson, was from D3 maybe, and did quite well at Michigan over the past couple years. I think Creighton or some Big East team has a starter from a lower level.

Duncan Robinson is an amazing story. He is in the NBA right now. Has there ever been a former D3 player in the NBA? Crazy.

hell if this kid could give us 10-15 minutes a game and shoot threes he is worth a spot on the roster. Looks like heavy competition for him though. Hoping we can land Sy. Any update on his recruiting?

His eligibility depends upon whether he was qualified to play in D-1 out of high school. Some people go to Juco's to drum up more interest in themselves, even if qualified.

RaRa Lopes on the FB team fit that bill.

I didn't see anything in that article about Pitt.

For the most part it’s not good but you do have teams especially in regions where JC BB is not big that have had good teams over the years & even produced D1 players. Monroe JC in NY has had some really good teams over the years and many players who have played D1 ball. A few even at high majors. They had Maurice Nadour who a few years back played a season in the NBA for the NY Knicks.

Pitt fans should remember Cleanthony Early from Wichita St. He was drafted in the 2nd round by the Knicks & played at least 2 years in the NBA. Guess where he started off... a no name D3 JC in upstate NY. When you are in need of talent like Pitt you turn every stone just in case...
