Capacity will be 10,500 for basketball games. Good quotes in here about atmosphere. This is what Pitt should do with the upper deck. Even if we get back to Dixon II levels, we are never going to sell the place out unless its Duke, UNC, or its like a #18 Pitt vs #12 Syracuse type game.

No one sits up top in the upper deck. If you buy tickets or have season tickets to the upper level, the ushers hand you a ticket for down below.

Texas built a new arena just to have them panel off the upper section from the start? That’s embarrassing

That new Texas arena sounds pretty cool. Closing off the upper deck for games is a smart move to create a better atmosphere. I think Pitt should consider doing the same. Even if we don't reach the glory days of Dixon II, it's hard to sell out unless we're up against big teams like Duke or UNC or a matchup like #18 Pitt vs. #12 Syracuse. By the way, I found this awesome website at https://www.arenacapacity.com/. Basically, that webpage has loads of info on stadium capacities worldwide. I think it's worth checking it out. It's pretty neat!

Yes. It also serves as the defacto Austin city arena for concerts and events so they wanted the upper deck for that. Even last year as Texas had a Final Four caliber team, they only opened up the upper deck once I believe. This is very very smart. Its a better atmosphere to squish everyone in every available seat and close sections.

I’m surprised they didn’t build it bigger in that case. They’re a booming metro area and could be in contention with Houston for an NHL team should they decide to expand again.

Yea, just noticed that. Probably one of my burner accounts.
Again, we already essentially do this already. Not sure why it’s worth discussing for us.

Congrats to Texas on their new arena though, I guess.

Dixon ll?
It's a thing SMF has been trying to force into reality for years, that there were two Jamie Dixon tenures; first a pretty great one, then a middling but better than Stallings one. Of course one person can't force others to adopt their ideas without an army, so I'll pass on this one (like everyone else.)

This arena is incredible for concerts. Since opening it is the highest-grossing venue in the world. Took a leak during the Springsteen concert and due to the top-notch acoustics it felt like he was playing outside the men’s room entrance.
