New update from Zeise

"And this is just to feed the monster: Scott Barnes and Sean Miller have a very good relationship...."

lol

And Thomas at Illinois had a very good relationship with Shaka Smart. Didn't work out to well.

I've been pretty supportive of Jamie but if this really is largely about Jamie being emotional because of criticism, he should just go. He has a supportive administration and a fan base that, while becoming impatient, largely still thinks he can get it done. At most programs, taking a perennial top-15 team and turning it into a consistent bubble team would incite unrest in the fanbase/administration, and I think he has been given an extremely long leash. But if he thinks things can continue along without the administration having a say, he is living in a fantasy land.

Seems like Dixon is caught up in his emotions and is looking for Pitt to love him again.

What I can believe is the quote by the insider that this is Dixon's annual plea for love and attention after an early NCAA exit. Please... Will this coach ever accept that he's screwed things up... from recruiting, to assembling a poor staff to poor game day coaching. The first step in making changes is to admit that you have made mistakes. This coach thinks he's perfect and a flipping martyr. He will never change as a result and if he is unwilling to change I hope he leaves!

Thank You. I couldnt have said it any better.

Yea, so because of that Miller would never come here. Smart is from Illinois and he and his wife are Ill alums so the scenarios are exactly the same. Oh wait.

And I think Jamie is really really unhappy Barnes is making him upgrade the non-con. Jamie had the RPI thing all figured out until evil Barnes said he wanted more interest and more tickets. Did not know that Long forced those home and homes on Jamie.
What AD wouldn't be happy with a half empty arena borne out of playing teams no ones heard of and games where your team scores43 points- it just doesn't get any better than that.

Thank You. I couldnt have said it any better.

I just can't believe that people would want him to stay over this. Why? Because of 2007? Those halcyon days of 2008 and 2009? Next year will be 2016-17. And now Jamie to this point negotiating with TCU to details of contract and buyout? I think the time has come now for a change.

Time for.......cool change. When in doubt...LRB always has the right answer,

I like Dixon. I kinda want him to stay. But when you score 43 points. 43 points, you deserve any and all criticism.

I expect to score 43 points if we played the Spurs.
Yup. And when you play Luther only 4 minutes and the explanation for doing so doesn't make sense.

While Ziese said that to stir things up, how is that in any way similar to Barnes knowing Miller? Miller is from the Pittsburgh area, went to and played for Pitt. Smart has no affiliation with Illinois; neither the state nor the University. He is from Wisconsin and played bball at a small college in Ohio.

Hes achieved a ton of great things and he has a lot of pride over that.

But just like hitting Pitt for raise every year is part of the "business" he needs to be able to handle some of this stuff because it's part of the business.

If what is being reported is true and that's a big what if he's wanting to have his cake and eat to.

Half-empty? You are being very generous. Actual attendance for some of those games was more like 3K or 4K. That Morehead State game on a Sunday, I tried counting the people but got sick of it but I don't think there were 2000 people there.

Of course no AD would be happy but Dixon's point is that it messes with his RPI manipulation.

If TCU wants Dixon, Dixon wants TCU and Dixon has a buy-out why would PITT negociate anything!

When you want something you buy it so buy it TCU ( Dixon+full buy-out). PITT should hold firm and get every dollar they can from this transaction! And I do realize PITT will have to give in some to make this happen but bargin hard PITT TCU has money!

Maybe Dixon will chip in with some of his new salary money.

It is best for everyone involved if JD goes to TCU. I wish him well, but if he comes back then we might be eating this contract in 2 years as opposed to getting a huge amount of $ to put towards a new hire.

Smart and Thomas were at Akron when Thomas was the AD and Smart an assistant BB coach. That's a bit more of a relationship than Barnes and Miller - which is what? Thomas dumped Weber cause he thought he had a sure thing in signing Smart - but it didn't work out at all well and he ended up with Groce, yikes. Not the same here as with Dixon who is not getting fired.

Interesting. Shows that Pitt is signaling they're ready to bid JD farewell and won't try to keep him. Pitt has no other choice- good move!

-Barnes isnt dealing with this bullshit. He wants to win, not sit on the sidelines and listen to excuses. Dixon is almost getting pushed out at this point. I actually like how this is breaking, Pitt wants to win, and win big. Time for things to come to a head. Step up or pack out.

You are in total denial of all reported facts...

The one good thing IF Sean Miller comes back is that Pittsburgh'ers will love it. You will get back to sell outs again = More $. If you put the buyout money towards Sean, then the salary #'s will be a wash. Pitt will make out financially, and the buzz will be back with Pitt basketball.

I agree with this. I like Dixon, I really do but the program has gone very stale the past few years. This program needs a shot in the arm which I don't think we'll see if Dixon stays.

-If we wanted him we would pony up to keep him. Lets separate fact from fiction. Most of whats reported on the internet is worthless information, especially news sites.

ALSO SHOWS HE DOESN'T EVEN WANT TO BE HERE ANYMORE - FINE, SHOW HIM THE DOOR

JD will realize in 3-5 years he made a huge tactical mistake here. He had virtually a lifetime contract at Pitt- which he didn't deserve and instead of playing the loyal soldier he bit the hand that fed him. He's completely burned his bridges, completely and way overplayed his hand.

Exactly. His focus should be proving those "naysayers" wrong and gettting Pitt back to his early success and hopefully greater. Instead he coaches an awful tournament game and then uses the media again to flirt and then most likely leave us for yet another school.

His act has gotten old and shouldn't even be allowed to stay at this point.

Agree with Del and the above post. Again had the program not been trending downward, I think you do what you can to keep Jamie. However this almost annual flirtation with other programs is really beginning to be disrespectful and unprofessional PItt has treated JD very well during his tenure. He's been given free reign and a better contract every time hes asked for it. To be looking after the embarrassing loss to Wiscy is a slap in the face to the program. I think it might be best for both to part ways now. VT, a program that was a turd compared to Pitt was able to Get Curly/Buzz Williams who is a darn fine coach. I suspect Barnes will do at least as well.

I told you guys we wouldn't be getting 10 mil from TCU.
Pitt is still going to get a nice chunk of change. I wouldn't care if we didn't even get paid the buyout as long as we would get out from under this ridiculous contract Smiley burdened our University with. It is time we move on from the Dixon era. He took the program as far as he could, now let's get this done and see Pitt get a fresh start.

I'm sorry, but that's just a ridiculous statement.

I never thought he would leave in the past when the rumors flew, but was very worried about the consequences if he did leave.
Not this time. I think he may leave, and I'm OK with it. The program is treading water, and sinking a little bit more each year. And the recruiting shows no sign of improving.

Also, the idea that Pitt won't put up the money for a good coach is a dated view. First of all, they're already paying well, as Dixon is the third highest paid coach in the ACC, so no serious upgrade in cash is needed. Plus, Pitt has a new commitment to athletics, and they won't go cheap as they might have a few years ago.

In years past, I was OK rooting for a team that played great D and outrebounded its opponents, despite not having a great offensive star. But while Dixon's teams still don't have that offensive star, the great D and rebounding are gone. I'm more afraid of him staying than leaving at this point. Its sad to think that I've come to that conclusion, but there it is.
