I liked that quote by Hamlin. From that other comments he made with Pompeani, it was pretty clear that one of the big reasons he chose Pitt is he believes in Narduzzi, that he can start from Day 1 and be cashing an NFL paycheck after 3 seasons just like Tyler Boyd and Jordan Whitehead.

At a factory like Ohio State, PT is a fight every day. Some kids thrive on that, some kids quit. At Pitt, he's the man. He has 36 games to do show the NFL what he can do.

And that is why OSU and Alabama win titles and Pitt does not. There is so much competition in practice it makes players better. Unfortunately Pitt will need to get to that level if they ever want to win titles.

Competition makes some kids better and it makes some very good players just sulk and quit. As for Bama and OSU, they are very good mainly because their entire rosters are pretty much 4 and 5 star players. They have a lot of talent. Its not just the competition making them better. They are just really talented.

Both Alabama and OSU both have really good recruiting areas in their state and not much competition to get the recruits they really want

First of all.....I would not call Auburn "not much competition"

Second.....these schools are elite because their recruiting base extends beyond their state. Don't look at their rosters......look at those that actually played the bulk of the snaps

You will find a large number of starters are from out of state. The ability to pull in talent on a national level is why they show up in the playoff discussion every year.

I still think posters on this board don;t understand how much talent Bama has. There was a piece on Sportscenter U the other day about Bama's talent level--they have 57 players who were ESPN top 300, and 7-8 who were the #1 overall player at their respective positions. They have guys who don't start for 3 years who end up playing in the NFL. In short, they are loaded like no other program, even the Buckeyes don't come close--because there is a difference between southern 4-5 star players and northern/Midwestern ones, primarily with the big guys. Alabama's corners this year were as big as our LBs, and ten times the athletes our corners are. Honestly, they are so stacked it's not even fair. I'm surprised when they don't win it all, not when they do.

Narduzzi recognized how lacking this team is in athleticism, particularly on the defensive side, and immediately--and effectively--set about improving it. We will never be Bama, nobody will, but there is no way we should have lesser team athleticism than a North Carolina or anyone else in our division. We are adding guys that can run, guys that have legit Power 5 size and speed. This class is a big first step toward Duzzi's vision of Pitt football.

I'm just going with my own experiences. You're right, there are some sulkers out there. I coached at a small school where there was very little competition because there weren't very many players. It was hard to get the kids to do the extra work to be better because they knew they had their starting job since there was no competition and a lot of times it showed in games because they were getting outplayed and beaten. Now that is not to say we didn't have some great players come through because we did.

And that seems to be what Pitt goes through. Yes, we get a Revis, McCoy, Fitzgerald, Donald, Boyd that are great players and end up great in the NFL. But how many titles has that amounted to? When we were in the Big East we couldn't even win that and I attribute that to lack of all around talent and depth like Alabama and OSU have. They have starters in their two deep, talent at every position and in their depth which creates a huge amount of competition. Not every player is the same, but good competition can make any player so much better.

Exactly, Smart recruits know what is important in CFB today:

1. Learn The Game & Do It By Playing it ASAP Where You Are Needed & Have The Opportunity To Play!

2. Learn From Coaches That Can Teach It With A Track Record Of Putting CFB Players Into The NFL!

3. Making Millions Is More Important Than National Championships, Fans In Stands, And Education Since All CFB Programs Must Qualify And Do Class Work To Play And Offer That Anyway.

Even Alabama and Clemson played Freshmen in this years National Championship. They both have superb coaching too. It starts with with finding a Great Coach and developing the Program by winning 10+ games in multiple years with Chancellor Vision and A.D. Support. Wisconsin, MSU, Baylor, VT, Texas Christian and to a lesser extent NW, KSU, and OKSU too have done it over multiple years!

Big Programs can reload every year but like Michigan, Texas, and USC have shown, they still need to find the Right Coach for them?

Right now nothing beats Bama's Saban and Ohio State's Meyer. USC did it under Carroll, Miami did it under a number of coaches, and Nebraska Osborn in the 1990s.

Changes in attitudes and money among College Programs as well as NFL Players has change the values of all College Football Programs.

Learning the game under coaches is as soon as possible is most important now and can gain a lifetime of earnings and go back and get an education like Fitzgerald has shown both within his character, type of play, and having another University pay for it as well as giving out scholarships to others in far more need.

What Larry's Parents taught him, and what he learned at Pitt on Football, establish his foundation of life as seen in College and the NFL and as an Ambassador to World Contributions.

Universities that set up programs for their Recruits, Student Athletes, and Alumni to return and train and get their Diplomas especially using Software Programs Courses make it easy to do that, but learning the game takes real focus on the player to learn it from coaching and the opportunity to play right a way.

Hamlin turn down playing in front of 90,000 Fans, and said he bought into Coach Narduzzi's Coaching and Commitment to teach him the game? Like I read on another Board and from Coaches, never saw one fan or alumni supporter contributor ever tackle, score a TD, catch a pass, or sack a QB, and they forget you as soon as you leave or get hurt?

Playing ASAP & Coaching Matters and smart recruits know this by now, like Hamlin!
