No more Eyes of Texas

I’ve been workin on the railroad.....all the live long day....
I am Greek and my grandfather came to this country in early 1900 and worked on the railroads. I remember he telling me the hard work and stories but was so happy to come here. When did working on the rr become a racist thing?

Every time I hear The Eyes of Texas, all that I can think of is the “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” lyrics. Too funny.

It’s not, but if you try to think about any of this logically, you’ll drive yourself nuts.

BTW, I’m only referring to the song.
I don’t blame them for asking to have the names changed on buildings named after people who may have done racists things. Demanding the changes is another story.

What is always amusing is when a conservative has some kind of startling revelation about the political orientation of Rage Against the Machine.

While that is something that happens, there isn’t a political bend to this. I don’t understand why tradition should be in line ahead of poor taste. It shouldn’t be all that difficult for someone who has studied it to weigh in and say if a song or a tradition has roots in something gross like racism. It’s also weird that anyone wouldn’t want to get rid of something like that.

Same thing with @HailtoPitt and his refusal to acknowledge that the meaning of words evolve. For many, it's more important for them to be able to do the bigoted or offensive thing they like to do than it is to be an empathetic person.

I overheard a guy at a resort in Florida tell his family he stopped listening to Bruce when "he got all political." I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he was well into his 70s, but Bruce got political before I was born. He needed to quit on Bruce after Nebraska, circa 1983.

Wait and see- The Star Spangled Banner is next. The media and radicals will not rest before they tear down every American Institution. Everything the radicals are against is free game. Our freedom is slipping away.

ya it’s getting stupid.

A lot of you are promoting racism by carrying around money that glorifies slave owners by putting their faces on it.

In order to be nonracist, you must send that money to me so you can be absolved.

Would rewritten lyrics be a reasonable and acceptable compromise to all, I wonder?

After successfully removing the time honored P-E-N-N-S-T s*cks, I believe any song can be rewritten.
