In 2017-18, among power-conference schools, Pitt was one of only five schools to miss out on receiving either a bowl bid or a birth to the men's and women's basketball or college baseball tournaments (Colorado, Illinois, Georgia Tech, and Rutgers were the others).

2017-18 was a historically terrible year for Pitt athletics overall.

5-7 (3-5) in football
8-24 (0-18) in men's basketball
10-20 (2-14) in women's basketball
4-11 (2-3) in wrestling
8-10 (2-6) in men's soccer
3-12-3 (0-9-1) in women's soccer
7-16 (0-14) in women's tennis
8-22 (3-3) in women's gymnastics
29-26 (11-19) in baseball
15-2 (0-2) men's swimming & diving:
8-3 (1-2) women's swimming & diving

Pitt had a winning conference record in only two sports:
33-18-1 (16-6) in softball
26-7 (18-2) in volleyball

That's historically down right awful. Of course, there's a lot of momentum building in some of these sports.

Football will bounce back. Both basketball teams are on the upswing. Men’s soccer is close to becoming something special. You have to think wrestling and girls soccer is on the same trajectory. Then you have baseball with some momentum and volleyball with an incredible season. Things could turn around quite quickly, at least we hope.

Everything seems to have positive momentum, but they're almost all starting at rock bottom. The reality is though, as far as coaching consistently national top 20 team, we really only have two proven coaches on staff in the AD: Vidovich and Waldrum, and neither of them made their name at Pitt. Things seem on the upswing almost across the board, but in reality it is really premature to make any conclusions on any program.

Through personal discussions with Waldrum, he feels that they will be a tourney team immediately, and competing for an ACC title in a couple years. The wrestling thing is absolutely unacceptable. I don’t get that one. But within two years, we should have football, men’s basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, softball , men’s soccer, women’s soccer all competing at a high level. And that will be better than anything we’ve ever had.

Football recruiting better pick up though.

we can't be critical of the track team. i mean, we don't have an actual track. i don't have the slightest idea how you recruit anyone at all.

"so where are the facilities."

"oh, here is the locker room. and the gym."

"yeah, yeah. but the actual track."

As my boss says hope is not a plan. have to be from Missouri on this and say show me. Show me Pitt that you will be the "player" in the conference that the AD and the Chancellor always say they are going top be. As Jerry McGuire yelled, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!" Put the money into facilities and excellent coaches. Don't ask me where they get it.

Trust me, as someone who lives in Kansas City, I know where you’re coming from ;)

But like some of stated, I think there is a positive trend in a lot of these sports.

Gymnastics made the NCAA tourney first the first time in like 3 years as well, despite their record.

We finally won an ACC championship, and the softball team won the coastal.

When you are trying to build something that had been neglected for decades, it's going to take a while. But I think the majority of these sports are heading in the right direction and actually have some support outside of FB and MBB.
