Not close to a sellout tonight

Besides, the behind the basket Zoo seats, Pitt has sold very few individual game tickets to the game tonight. Only a few seats remain in the Zoo but almost the entire upper deck endzones and corners remain unsold.

9:00 weeknight is usually a killer although a lot of people have off this week, tomorrow especially. Still disappointing to see so many empties. And, of course, even though the lower bowl is sold out, there will be a few hundred or so no-shows.

I think the crowd will be into the game though similar to Purdue.

It's going to be tough without the students. They brought all the energy to the Purdue game.

They need to stop scheduling more than 1 home game during the time the students are away. save a few hundred people, they are the only ones who make noise.

Also, they are probably going to be dozens of people who don't attend because the parkway east is closed. Sad, but true.

I didn't even realize this was a 9:00 game until now. That sucks. I hate late games.

It's the "noon kickoff" of basketball.

First conf game, its Cuse, Pitt in top25, I mean come on...are we a big time bb program or not?

IMHO we are reaping the harvest from years of scheduling dull foes....I will admit that I dropped down to a mini package this year which includes this game.
My reasoning was simple....I did not want to pay for a bunch of games i could neither use nor give away.
I think there are many like me...after so long, it comes down to whether you are getting your money's worth.
Every business has down cycles and this is where Pitt basketball finds itself.
I certainly am not privy to the conversations, but i do expect that Scott Barnes was looking at ticket sales when he opinied about improving the OCC schedule.
Purdue was a splendid foe, but JD lost the buzz with a couple of lackluster years AND dull OCC foes.
Eventually, people want change.

There will be about 500 students there which is enough to make some noise. They only sold the under the basket Zoo sections to the public meaninh enough students claimed their tickets to fill the sideline sections.

Thank you! The students do bring the energy and its sad that the rest of the crowd save a few hundred don't get more involved but its a sedate sit on their hands fanbase - unfortunately!

Just a horrible time slot. Students off. 9:00 start. Pens also play at home. Wednesday night before huge holiday night. Once again. Thanks ESPN. Thanks ACC. Why not flip this with the UNC/Clemson game where there is nothing else to do.

Woah! Pens are home tonight? That sure explains the poor sales. Yinzers love white guys ice skating, thats for sure.

As for ACC and ESPN, what do you want them to do? This is a great TV time slot. Sucks for attendance but great for national TV. And 9:00 is typically better than 7:00 for national TV which is why ESPN wanted Pitt/Cuse at 9 rather than 7.

As i said here

https://pittsburgh.forums.rivals.com/threads/big-game-tickets-still-available.39824/

You either support the team and show up or or dont .if you cant afford tickets, fine. Thats your money and how you allocate it. but for the love of god stop making excuses for this all the time now. For years it was "play someone and people will come" they play purdue. no one comes.. "its too late a tip time.... we were good last year and lost supporters... need to win to get fans back'' all i hear is people making excuses for why people cant come. stop it. please.. now were ranked playing one of our biggest rivals and off to a great start.. again "its too late...its the holidays.." i read and see more excuses on here than i see from kids at work when they do something wrong.

as i said in previous thread "There are two kinds of people in the world: those who make excuses and those who get results. An excuse person will find any excuse for why a job was not done, and a results person will find any reason why it can be done. Be a creator, not a reactor... Either show up especially when you have a big time opponent or don't complain... Sorry again but had to vent.. again..

said before.. again...

Maybe Pitt or ESPN just consult each Pittsburgh resident/pitt fan to get everything situated to get you there... Then majority wins with regards to start time, location, time of year .. etc regardless i'll be there

lets go pitt!

Pitt doesnt have a large enough bball fanbase to sell tickets for 9PM weeknight games when the Pens are playing......unless we are playing Duke, UK, the Cavs, or Golden State

Not close, is a bit of a stretch.. There are about 1,000-1,200 unsold... There will be a loud 9-10,500 there this evening.. but I get your drift... The shine is off right now & put that with the 9:00 PM start & single game seats at $65, and you get what you get...

I'm here and the attendance sucks. Looks like the crowd from the Detroit game. Pitiful.

It was a pretty good crowd, the place got really loud at the end. I do think the 9:00 start and squirrel hill tunnel closure kept some people away, but I don't really care how many people are there so long as it is a good crowd. I would guess there were 10.5k there tonight, and it was a good crowd.

If we have a crowd that large for the non-prime acc games, ill be more than happy.

Im not saying thats a great thing but 10k for a out of session game is all you can expect right now.

Win a few more and get into the teens, the place will be packed again. Everyone likes to complain about attendance but its been mediocre for 3-4 years. The team has been mediocre for those years. The city supports a winner. As the Pens keep sliding and Pitt keeps winning, the crowds and demand for tickets will return.

student section was great. attendance was better than I expected. Still a fair number of 'no shows' in the good seats behind the floor suites.

If you thought the attendance looked like the Detroit game then either you weren't there tonight, you weren't there for the Detroit game, or you are blind. One or the other.

Wait. I take that back. You could be a troll. Now that I think about it, it's most likely that one.

Can SMF and the other jagoffs come back and admit how wrong they were?

Man, I hate to stick up for SMF ( :) ), but what are you talking about? He said that there were lots of unsold seats in the upper deck ends and corners, and in fact there ended up being lots of empty seats in the upper deck end zone and corners. Enough, in fact, that Pitt didn't even pretend that the game was a sellout or even all that close to it. Pitt announced 10,429. That means just over 2,000 empty, unsold seats.

So why would he need to come back and admit how wrong he was when he was actually 100% correct?

I doubt you were there. I hate when people make these kind of stupid statements and they don't even attend the games or don't know what they're looking at if they do attend.

Lol who cares if you "doubt" I was there. I know I was and when I posted the attendance remark it was 5-10 minutes before the game and the Pete looked half empty. In another thread after the game I mentioned that although it didn't look like it early on, the attendance ended up being nice.

Band played Paula Abdul's Cold Hearted Snake and Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer on a couple of the commercial breaks.

Pitt really needs to step up the OOC, it's what is holding back attendance.

I think if we had only played St. Joe's of Philly instead of St. Joe's of Indiana in November, this game would have been sold out.

If we would have played St Joe's of Natrona Heights, think of all those Brackenridge, Birdville, Natrona, Natrona Heights and Harrison Twp fans we could have brought down Route 28 to the Pete! Maybe even the Tarentum, West Tarentum and Fawn Twp fans would have come also?

I was there. If you don't believe it, so be it.

Joe wasn't questioning your attendance at all.

He was saying that he thinks they have played these songs for 918 games in a row.

When it comes to Cold Hearted Snake, I think he's correct.

However, I seem to think Living on a Prayer is new this year.

What's up with the '80's pop songs?? I mean, I grew up in the '80's so I don't mind but I'm confused as to the choice of songs lol. All we need is "We Built This City"!!!! Right DT?

Have you ever noticed a pattern, that when you post things too early, they end up being really dumb statements? Are you really that impulsive that you need to post things on a message board as soon as any thought pops into your head? Are you 12?

Poor attendance always a product of an unfortunate confluence of circumstances and Pitt being incompetent. Otherwise this place would be packed because this is a passionate basketball town, dammit.

If we could discuss attendance issues twice a week instead of once a week on pantherlair, the attendance would probably go up. Clearly, attendance is a topic that deserves more discussion. The more discussion we have, and the more we beat this dead horse, the more likely people whill show up.

The Pete may not have been filled, but the place was loud as the Panthers rallied. Great energy and people outside the Zoo actually STOOD UP AND CHEERED down the stretch. A memorable win, even without that whiner Boeheim on the 'Cuse bench.... I wonder if Jimbo was disguised as the fat dude behind the basket with the orange and blue wig?
