Breakdown of stats and a few notables for yesterday's game

At the bottom of this post, I will show the offensive futility by VT and VT-Pitt combined with regards to the Beamer era. The main issue stat-wise was 1st down for VT. Here is what VT did on 1st down:
Total 1st down plays: 21 (Pitt: 24)
9 dropbacks, 12 pure run (officially, 5 pass/16 rush)/Pitt: 5 dropbacks, 19 pure run (officially, 3 pass/21 rush)
Total yards: -8 (Pitt: 119)
Avg per 1st down play: -0.4 (Pitt: 5.0)
Of the 21 plays, VT had 13 that didn't gain a yard (9 of which lost yards), 2 plays that gained more than 5 yards, and only once did VT get a first down on 1st down. To continue, their avg 2nd down to go was 10.6...3rd to go was 10.8.
Basically, VT got behind on 1st down and couldn't catch up. It doesn't help either that of VT's 53 total offensive plays, only 7 came in Pitt territory (where 2 were in the red zone). Pitt, however, had 26 of their 61 plays happen in VT territory (only one red zone play - the final kneel).
Here is a down-by-down comparison (plays/yards/avg):
1st down: VT - 21/-8/-0.4 Pitt - 24/119/5.0
2nd down: VT - 18/65/3.6 Pitt - 20/86/4.3
3rd down: VT - 13/43/3.3 Pitt - 16/58/3.6
4th down: VT - 1/0/0.0 Pitt - 1/13/13.0

Here is a list of QB pressures (note that for hurries, it was based on if the QB was rushed to throw - not official, and not dependent on an incomplete pass):
# of dropbacks: VT - 32, Pitt - 21
# of hits: VT - 13, Pitt - 7
Hurried: VT - 19, Pitt - 12
Sacked: VT - 7, Pitt - 4
INT: VT - 3, Pitt - 0

Another negative stat:
Total plays: VT - 53, Pitt - 61
Total plays <=2 yards: VT: 34, Pitt: 34 (Thus, 68 of the 114 offensive plays went for 2 yards or less)
Total plays <=0 yards: VT: 26, Pitt: 21 (Thus, almost half of VT plays didn't gain at least 1 yard)
Total plays <0 yards (negative): VT: 12, Pitt: 9

So here is what kind of offensive futility that game had yesterday (note that all records are only based on Beamer-led Hokie teams):

100 total yards - 2nd worst
9 rushing yards - 4th worst
376 total yards by both teams - tied-2nd worst for a game involving VT
-18 total yards in 4th qtr - 2nd worst quarter overall, 1st worst 4th quarter
-30 yards rushing in 4th qtr - 3rd worst quarter overall, 2nd worst 4th quarter
-8 rushing yards in 2nd half - tied for 9th worst half overall, 6th worst 2nd half
27 total yards in 2nd half - 5th worst half overall, 4th worst 2nd half
-21 rushing yards combined by both teams in 4th quarter - 1st worst (note that both teams combined for -15 rushing yards in the 2nd quarter - that is the 6th worst quarter not including OT)
15 total yards by both teams in 4th quarter - 2nd worst (not including OT)
