2 of the 2016 WPIAL top 10 already, #1 in the class of 2018. Hard to pretend that's no big deal.

Only guy I see on the ND staff with WPIAL ties is Scott Booker from Shadyside Academy.
They went after Hamlin hard last year but fortunately Duzzi won that battle.

Hopefully they don't get anyone else from WPA.

Pitt needs to win. 8-5 was a good start but it still entailed losing 3 straight to close the season. Win 8 again and we get these kids to give us a 2nd look. With. 9+ and dooz will close extremely strong. Going to be tough, but it is doable

ND dropped Hamlin after they landed Troy Pride. Ran out of spots. He's a damn good player though.

ND obviously increased the modification to football tithe. I have enjoyed kicking thier asses over the years.

Father Malkehey... Put that sheep down.

They always have. It just seems they are more dominate this year because there are so many top players in the WPIAL that they got on to early.

I was gonna mention this in the other thread. Had Hamlin committed sooner he'd likely be at ND and not Pitt. ND was at the top of Damar's list for a good while.

I don't know if ND would have landed him. The hometown connection I always thought was pretty huge with Hamlin. Hamlin is a stud. ND just got full quick. That's how it goes sometimes. It would have been a battle to the end.

Again. We have owned ND the last decade for local talent. Except this year unfortunately.
Especially, when they got the top QB in the country from here. A spot that has been one of our weekest positions.

Not true...... just sayin! It was between Pitt and Ohio st the whole time.

No. It wasn't. I don't Have many sources or proclaim too many things along these lines. But I know someone who was quite close to the situation.

I realize I'm just another guy with an Internet connection and a keyboard so I always expect skepticism. But you're incorrect.

I don't believe this to be true - at all. I think he was a Pitt lean, but ND was definitely involved.

ND was involved and them filling up became a factor. Maybe as the process went on he started leaning Pitt so he didn't care if ND filled up but there was mutual interest at one time.

I don't really follow recruiting but I remember Narduzzi saying something this past season like "Notre Dame can get whatever player they want. Brian will never admit that, but it's true." That kinda surprised me. It's not like they have location going for them or their facilities are better than everyone else's. There's considerable academic prestige but if you can get into ND as an athlete then you can probably get into Standord, Duke, Miami, USC, UCLA, etc.
Maybe it's the attention and the TV contract?

They're good at other sports too. It's odd.

The Notre Dame hype factory is hard to overcome. If we have to lose these guys I'd rather it be to anyone other than Slick Jimmy.

Deserved or not the Notre Dame name still has a certain pull.

It's odd?? They are freaking ND? What is odd about it?

I cant stand ND but they deserve their status in the college football world because they somehow earned it.
Its a great academic instiution with really good D1 sports and those two things are hard to balance.
ND has less students enrolled than PITT and look at their dedicated alum base and fan support. This does include the "subway" fans who root for them because they're Catholic or Irish or have a thing for little men in green suits.
Ask a ND subway fans\ what state ND is in? Many don't know!
In contrast the real ND fan is a class act. ND could sell tickets to a football game if it was on Mars.
I don't like ND but I'd love for PITT to be just like them ( ex Kelly of course).

Money sure helps the non-revenue sports. It's a source of pride to those people. And their alums. Lots of kids from Catholic schools dream of going there. I hated them because the nuns told us to pray for them, back in their hayday.

I took him to mean they can get almost any kid (academically) they want and they don't have to be National Merit Scholars like some people pretend.

You are never going to overcome an upbringing permeated with consistent adoration by a large number of Catholic families of the Catholic Mecca, the Golden Dome. When you throw in the "Irish" factor, It doubles down on their attraction. I fear that many ND followers are unaware that South Bend is not a suburb of Dublin. Never mind that their HC had a hands on in the negligent death of a student or his continuous use of the lowest level of vulgarity on this players. Hype and indoctrination easily trump reality. How many movies have we seen about Pitt or DI football programs with the exception of ND?

Race and socio-economic status also play a major role in the highly segregated area of the WPA.

The original mission of catholic education, i.e., a quality education for all catholic children at little or no cost to the individual family has long since been abandoned.... by necessity. The number of practicing catholic families has dwindled to a small fraction of its size 40-50 years ago. And the number of vocations has slowed to a trickle.. It has become impossible to fulfill the original mission of Catholic education.

The catholic HS's have slowly morphed in bastions of privilege for the rich or talented. They have become a mirror image of Catholic education in Central and South America.

btw, I am a practicing Catholic, horrified by the cover-ups of molestation (for how many centuries?)
within the clergy, with 16 years of my education within Catholic Institutions, and 2 sons who are graduates of GCC.

Side Note - The original intent of parochial schools was to provide an education in a safe environment because children of the Catholic faith were discriminated against and faced a lot of prejudice in public schools. You do make a lot of good points, and I share similar experiences and thoughts. I left the Catholic Church and never looked back.

Were Adams, Hinish, Jurkovic all catholic?

Who knows if in their families, if catholic, that ND is the almighty like some other Catholics in WPA?
