Notre Dame

Did they have a sandal paying players or something when Holts was there?
I don't think there was a sandal. It was the last time that they had a really good collection of players and coaches. They haven't been at that level since Holtz and his staff left.

Can't believe you haven't figured it out by now. Most all teams are pretenders. There are only 2 to 3 teams that can win the CFP year to year. ND aint one of them. So they win double digit games once in a while. Not only can they not beat Bama and Clemson or Ohio st., they can't even compete on that level. The ghosts of Knute Rockne and Joe Montana aren't coming back for any national title runs.

Their TV contract does allow them to throw money around and try to buy the best coaches and recruit better. Since 1988, they have failed to get to the top, so what they are doing is not getting them there. I hope they get even worse because I am tired of watching them get humiliated in every game they play against the big boys.

In fact, I hope at some point they would get so bad that no P5 conference would want them. Probably won't happen, but, boy would I love to see them as a struggling independent that nobody would want. Even if that doesn't happen, they are a program that has seen their best days pass. There just aren't that many little boys that want to grow up and play for ND anymore.
Their schedule doesn’t help them imho playing Navy my school does absolutely nothing for them. Only USC gives them an annual P5 power to measure against top teams and USC is down. I hope they become the Georgetown basketball of NCAA football.

ND has double digit wins in five of the last six seasons.

ND makes less TV money than every P5 school.

You missed on the first two "facts" you stated.

Sure, they can't beat Alabama, as I said in my previous post, but your other comments are a bit off.

On the positive side, they have you coming to their defense on the free Pitt board. So, they have that going for them.

There are two separate discussions. I don’t think either one is debatable.

1) ND has a big following and brings in a lot of money. They would be a good addition to any conference and partial admission is better than none for the ACC.

2) ND doesn’t have the same appeal to the younger generation of star players that it did 50 years ago. Elite QB’s like Lawrence don’t dream of playing at ND. They are a good program, but not at the elite level like Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, etc.

Not paying in a conference championship game might help ND. Then they don't have to lose, where in most years that loss would knock them out.

ND is playing Wisconsin and Cincinnati next year, along with 5 ACC schools (FSU, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech), USC, Stanford, Navy, Purdue and Toledo.

In 2022, ND plays Ohio State, Clemson, USC, Stanford, Navy, 4 other ACC schools, California, UNLV and Marshall.

What I can conclude from that is you won't have to worry about them being in the CFP in 2022. Ohio State and Clemson will see to that!
