I'm guessing that the strength coach said to him "I'm looking for an assistant for next year. Interested?"
2 more losses and the Fightin' Leps can't "steal" an ACC bowl bid!
Looks like he's lost control....
it may even be questionable he completes the year out what with all the shenanigans aside from 2-5!

Maybe if Kelley isn't fired and replaced by a better coach--some of the local guys will change their minds by signing day?

The ND fans over on NDNation are talking...Paul Chryst...as a candidate.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I like Coach Chryst as a person and I think he's a fine coach. But can you imagine him holding up to the limelight and scrutiny that comes with that job?!?!
That would be "neat".
ND just got finished paying off Weiss - it is unlikely they will put themselves in the same position so qucikly.

Kelly can have a bad season. But it is the arrogance of his personality that is hard to take. ND doesn't want to pay off 12 million and quite frankly there are not many successful candidates that think ND is a great job. Kelly will probably be back unless the atmosphere is so toxic that he has to go.
reason why 'domers are 2-5..........they've only played 7 games. gotta' love the 'canes and 'domers game -whoever loses- it's a win.

Yes all the people wearing ND stuff and when you ask them this question they give you blank stare. Not even a guess probably because they cant come up with many states except PA, NY, NJ, or CA.

Kelly is so hated by the adminstrative staff at Notre Dame. There is information coming out soon that will be the nail in his coffin. The Irish cant find a coach who just is a good coach. The Ego syndrome sets in the moment they are hired. Strange place.

Wouldn't surprise me if he had something akin to a breakdown. Not wishing this on him but just a thought.
When is the last time they landed this many players from here in 1 class?
My gut tells me they landed all these kids in large part because the kids wanted to play together in college?
Not so sure it is as much the lure of Notre Dame as it is the idea of playing together.

I've been saying the same thing. if i'm not mistaken jeter himself said one of the nd verbals played a big role in recruiting him to nd. i think it was hinesh that played that role.

I have a friend that went to Slippery Rock with me and always posts stuff on Facebook like "Merry Christmas from Notre Dame", or "Love Thee Notre Dame". The twit lives in Pittsburgh and family is polish. No family member ever went to Notre Dame. To me, he is the true definition of a subway fan.
They are as bad as the cultists to the east and I love seeing them implode. No way Miami loses. Notre Dame playing five ACC Games kind of tells you how good they would do if they ever had to join a conference.
I loathe the "subway" fans. You went to Notre Dame, live in Indiana or parent went to Notre Dame... you are a legitimate fan. I will also give a free pass to the Irish Catholics...anyone else is is delusional.

Funny thing is I highly doubt Chryst would even entertain a call from them. He's clearly in the best situation for him and probably is smart enough to realize it. Imagine being turned down by Mumbles McMooselodge.
Sometimes you wonder that a Notre Dame commitment inflates a kids ranking at least slightly.
No question it probably does but these kids are all 4 or 5 star kids before they commit to ND. Fact is for some reason they have struggled to find the right 4 and 5 star kids. I don't think they are getting current Bama or OSU level talent anymore but as the rankings suggest they are getting top 20 talent every year(being ranked consistently high is big quite a few schools will have a 10 ranked class followed by a couple 35th ranked classes. averaging in the top 12 for 3 years is actually higher than 12th in one year.
Kelly won big time at his lower level stints with much lower ranked talent. Yes, the competition was also lower level, but the guy has shown he can coach and win.
Now, with much higher ranked talent, he is struggling to win this year against teams that are not all that great. He's losing at home to teams like Stanford in a down year, and to teams like Duke, who isn't even at the same level of the 2015 Duke team that Pitt easily handled on the road last year.
I know this ND team is disfunctional this year, and you can put that on Kelly, but I'm sorry, the talent that I've seen on the field this year for ND is just average. Just another case of how wrong recruiting rankings can be.
Even assuming that all kids are ranked ahead of being recruited and verbaling (in other words, no adjustment for committing to ND), if ND's class this year is ranked #3 and Alabama's class is ranked #10, I would take Alabama's recruits over ND's recruits ALL ...DAY ... LONG. Anyone disagree with me??
