Notre Dame's secondary got beat at crucial times all night. Are they lousy? Do they lack talent and athleticism? How about Stanford's secondary, the same? My point is that I really disagree with all the harsh criticism of Pitt's secondary recently, particularly the corners. When any team with a good offense plays in today's college game they are going to score points. Pitt's defensive scheme by design shuts down the running game at all costs which invites the offense to throw the ball downfield. It is a good way to go in my opinion as it eventually makes the offense one dimensional and then you can place heat on the QB etc.,

Of course Pitt has to improve and more talent will help but two games that stick out in my mind are Miami and North Carolina. Pitt's offense was terrible to start the game, play calling, execution, etc., which gave their offense so many opportunities and when opposing offenses have the luxury to throw down field just to take a shot, it will be a long day for the corners.
