Now this is how you do a team name, branding, etc..

Here is my question: You represent an area on the West Coast adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, and you select as your mascot a mythical Norse sea monster which in legend terrorizes the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea, half a world way from you. Why?

Because it's a nickname for a sports team, not a history lesson.

The people in New York and Tennessee are no bigger than the people anywhere else, and yet Giants and Titans. I think it's pretty safe to say that New Orleans is not one of the most virtuous cities, and yet Saints. There haven't been Jaguars in Jacksonville since humans have been recording history, and yet Jaguars. Everyone in Minnesota is not, in fact, a Twin ( ;) ). And so on.

At least with New Orleans “when the saints come marching in” is an iconic song for the area
Jaguars gets the alliteration affect - like Pitt panthers

I am not a huge fan of irregular plural noun team names. I think it sounds very expansion-y.

I think a city like Seattle should sound traditional, so I’m definitely going to have to get used to the name Kraken.

However, I got used to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild, so I’m sure it will happen.

The logo and colors look great! I have no doubt those sweaters are going to look awesome on the ice as well.

That deep navy blue is going to contrast beautifully with the white of the ice and will probably look better on the ice than they do right now.

I know there were some criticisms about the Kraken not being native to the Pacific Northwest, but that objection honestly makes me laugh.

Kraken are a mythical phenomenon — they’re not native to anywhere! That’s like complaining that giants don’t live in New York City, they obviously live in the German forest.

Also, are penguins native to Pittsburgh?

How many lakes are there in Los Angeles?

Where does one find bengal tigers in the greater Cincinnati area?

That's just a really odd criticism when it is contextualized with the rest of North American professional sports.
