Paying attention to interviews and recaps over the last week, some clarity is starting to form on a lot of things. Hearing that Pitt is planning on running a lot of inside zone this season, it explains the decisions and philosophies about a lot of o line decisions. Inside zone teams like their tackles to be more athletic in the run game due to them having to rip underneath the 5 technique to block a linebacker, while a full or H back like Aston will kick that end. The guards have to be maulers and not as fleet of foot as guards that pull alot. it also makes sense on why they want Bookser to play RT, and why a guy like Houy is doing well so far. From a recruiting standpoint, the TE to play OT makes sense as a tackle based off of the philosophy (whether you like the fact he has no other P5 offers is a different debate). If they plan to run any outside zone schemes, those OTs have to be quick to reach and hook a 5 tech. Other former or current coaches on here @RoadToNumber10 @XanderCrews34 can attest or add to this. This blocking scheme and philosophy is changing up front from what they did the past three years. They ran a little zone under Chaney, but they were not very good at it.
