From Flowrestling.com:

One of the Top Juniors comes off the board today as Canon McMillian's Gerrit Nijenhuis has made his decision.

Nijenhuis has been a huge factor at all the majors he's entered. Runner-Up at both Super 32 and FloNationals last year, he was also won NHSCA Sophomores to go along with a 4th at Fargo FS in '17.

In-state, Gerrit was 3rd in the state as both a freshman and sophomore with both losses to Carter Starocci.

Recently dropping to 170 for the postseason run, Nijenhuis is ranked 2nd in the state behind Lehigh commit and two-time state champ Edmond Ruth.

His final list included Wisconsin and Iowa State, but Nijenhuis ultimately decide he will head to Purdue University and wrestle for Tony Ersland.

"I feel like I connected with the coaches and that I will have the best chance to achieve all of my goals there," Nijenhuis said. "And I feel like something special is happening at Purdue with a great young team and I wanted to be a part of that."

Was Pitt recruiting him?

Pitt already signed Jared McGill. Nijenhuis is ranked 5 and McGill is ranked 6 by Flowrestling. Ed Ruth is ranked 12th by Flowrestling

On top of that, I suspect Kellan Stoudt's brother Luke is the highest priority in that weight range, out of next years class. He gave Carter Starocci an really good match at Powerade.

Would love to get everyone out of PA but Pitt is doing well. Remember, they also have Austin Cooley coming in next year too.Pitt is doing well

Not sure why Ed Ruth was ranked #12 by Flo Wrestling. Two time state champion with more than 100 consecutive wins. Has the bloodlines too: brother was three time NCAA champion at PSU. In any event, his streak is over: Nijenhuis dominated him in the PIAA finals. Led 7-0 going into the third period and was voted the most outstanding wrestler.

Stout lost in the semis I believe.

Stout lost in the AAA 182lb Finals to Carter Starocci who is now a two time PIAA AAA State Champion, a Penn State recruit, and ranked number 2 in the country by some recruiting rankings at 182lbs. ..... Starocci is a senior and Stout a junior.

Recruiting wrestling with small scholarship numbers, focuses on area’s of need. As a poster above mentioned. Pitt has done a good job bringing in young talent in and around 170. I’m sure they recruit priorities first based on weight class depth. That said, recruiting highly rated wrestlers will always be in order.

Penn State seems to be the only program that can stack multiple guys with other good offers at the same weight class.
