Offensive Line has been very disappointing this year

We have run the ball consistently well for 1 half this season and that was the 1st Half against Penn State and I chalk more of that up to PSU being totally unprepared for the jet sweeps and misdirection.

Pitt has simply not been able to line up and mash it for 4, 5, 6 yards consistently. Although I like the jet sweeps, the reliance on them has me a bit concerned? Can these guys not run block, man on man? This was supposed to be the best offensive line in decades.

In the 2nd Quarter, it took Pitt 4 plays to get 2 yards and the TD, and really Conner didnt get in but it was indisputable enough to overturn.

With the game on the line late, we couldn't get 4 yards in 2 plays near midfield to win it.

The loss isnt that big of a deal. But the thing I am most concerned with is offensive line play. I thought we would just gash people like Wisconsin used to but it hasnt been like that. Against Nova, a young PSU DL, and a finesse OKST team, our OL has been average.

Agree. We've only scored 80 points the past 2 weeks because of our bullshit OL.

Wow.. Yeah I know averaging 250 yards a game rushing and only giving up 2 sacks all year sounds bad... But it really isnt.

One week after we ran for 341 yards at 6.1 yards per carry we ran for 290 yards at 5.4 yards per carry yesterday. So everyone, just imagine if the offensive line wasn't so damn disappointing. I'm thinking something like 784 yards per game with a per carry average of around 12.5. Sounds about right.

The Oline is certainly solid, but their pass blocking has disappointed me. Its not that its the worst pass blocking that I've ever seen, its more that my expectations were pretty high after all of the preseason accolades.

this I agree with. I expected Peterman to have alot of time and he hasn't. take out the jet sweep yardage and the yards per carry goes down considerably. jet sweeps have everything to do with scheme and zero to do with interior line blocking. the times we should have run it down their throats we haven't been able to

Slightly disagree with pass blocking. If defenses know you essentially only pass on 3rd down for the most part, it is so much easier to time their rush and blitz accordingly.

People have to read the actual posts, not headlines.

A lot of that yardage and big plays are due to jet sweeps, which run away from the offensive line and is more reliant on WRs blocking downfield.

2nd 4 and the 48 with 3:30 left and a chance to win it, you cant get 4 yards in 2 plays, that is VERY disappointing. In fact, we only needed 3 yards in those 2 plays because if it was 4th and 1, Narduzzi would have went for it.

Perhaps its my high expectations but this OL has not been able to manhandle opposing DLs. They've been good, not great ad I expected. I dont count jet sweep yardage as great offensive line play.

SMF--You need to worry about defense not offense. We are scoring plenty of points and winning time of possession by a wide margin. The problem is that our defense couldn't stop a little old lady from mailing a letter much less stop any team passing for TDs pretty much at will.

You are worrying about the wrong problem entirely.

The thing is, I dont have any hope for our defense. The secondary is the worst we've had in years and we continue to deploy Whitehead as a "run-stopper" instead of a shut-down corner.

The D isnt going to stop anybody. Penn Friggin State lit us up for 39 points. The offense is going to have to outscore people.

I thought the line struggled mightily against Villanova. The past two games though they've been outstanding. Unless you're nit-picking at the 2-3 bad plays in any game, they really have been paving the way for consistent carries like that. Also doesn't hurt though that James Conner is just running people over like they're not even there.

Does anyone realize the best D Lineman we've faced is probably Villanova's #92? Kpassagnon is going to be a first round pick, can't say the same for any of the UPS or OK St guys...

The OL is fine, wish we threw some quick passes (slants, outs, fades) off play action. That would be a great addition to the offense.

It really perplexes me that so many seemingly (well, benefit of the doubt) intelligent people simply cant grasps the factor that we have a pretty average QB and way way below average wide receivers (as of now, not having experience). How on earth are we supposed to have a great offensive machine with that??? We have a great run offense... and Canada, I mean, he should be considered no less than a genius for what he has accomplished with what he has to work with but instead there are actually fans calling for his firing and Peterson to be benched outside the confines of a padded wall.
